If you had one Rifle?

If I was to only use one gun for all the hunting for the rest of my life it would be a Rem. 700 in 7mm Mag.
I use the 7mag most anyway and feel its covers about any hunting situation I'll be in just fine.

Im kinda partial to my Ruger #1.25-06.  It does just fine for anything in this state.

I use a 7mm Remington Mag with 160 gr Accubonds.
If I could do it over again I woud probably shoot the .300 WSM.

I originally got the gun for target shooting and got in to hunting later on.After a season of hiking around with a 26" bull barrel I decided to make it lighter since 308 still performs well with a shorter barrel.

I would go with what I've got: Browning A bolt in  270 Win. with a 3.5-10x40 Leupold scope. I already do use it for deer, elk, and bear. I do have a 30-06 and a 243 but they mostly just sit in the safe.

Remington or Springfield built mid serial number 03-A3 action with Timney sporter trigger and aftermarket iSS fluted 20" bullbarrel chambered in 30-06 Ackley Improved. Sako floor plate with detachable magazine. It would have Williams peep rear with ghost ring & post front iron sights and a B-Square scope mount and some sort of Leup'y 3-9x50ish with tactical retical. Composite sporter stock with adjustable cheek piece and Packmaier decelorator recoil system. Glass/Pillar bedded.

I could also go with a Winchester built or late model Springfield M1 Garand with a lighter sporter composite stock with adjustable cheek piece. Glass/pillar bedded. Oh... a target barrel, a few other upgrades to trigger and ejector and such. Similar peep/iron sights with an option for glass.

Depending on the state of the world, I could also be pleased with an M14NM or M25 Sniper rifle (308win).

I take an elk and deer most every year with a Levergun of some sort.  I like eatin' right up to the bullet hole so it needs to be a big bore that is cast bullet friendly. 

The longer I sit here and think about it the more torn I am.  Either the '86 in 45-70, the 71 in .348 or else the 24" Marlin Cowboy in .44.  All 3 have taken deer and elk for me and all 3 are close to my heart. 

Can't make up my mind....

I'd stick with my Ruger 77 all weather with the old boat paddle stock in 300win mag.  Has the older style Vari XIII on it in 3x9x40.  Had it since '93 and it's dumped a lot of game.  Hand loaded with 180gr swift scirocco's, nothing on this continent I'd be scared to hunt with it.

If you could only have on gun, I'd take a Savage Combo. 20 GA Shotgun and .223 rifle in one gun. It is a single shot gun, built like an OU. The top barrel is the rifle and the bottom barrel is the shotgun. Put a nice scope on it and you can take anything out there.

those are far more popular over here and come in amazing combinations. almost any combo you could think of. its called a bockbuchseflinte
