Quality deer hunt,Is it really special?
« on: June 18, 2010, 06:34:14 PM »
So I may have drawn an Entiat or Swakane any buck Modern Rifle.

But thinking on it.Is it really anything special.Other than being able to shoot any buck. And only having 25 hunters in the area?

Doesnt this area get hammered pretty hard during the regular seasons?Or is it a chance to get a great buck, because of the rut, migration, or something else.Just curious.I would appreciate any input.

Never hunted the area before.Only been there once. And that was extremely limited. My brother in law has hunted it a lot for archery deer season.

So,is it really a quality deer hunt.I know quality is in the eyes of the beholder. And Ive had several quality hunts. As far as what I expect a quality hunt to be..Not necessarily a quality hunt as in the size of the trophy.Although that can add to the quality hunt experience.

Oh ma gaw.  Did you just type that?  Just give the tag back.

Probably do a bit of research.  Yes, it is that special.  Migratory deer, the right weather conditions.  Potentially, those tags will be AWESOME.

:yeah:   Have you never heard of the migrations?  Or the rut?   Is this serious?

Yep,thats what I wrote.

And I definetly have a bunch of research and scouting to do.Hopefully my Brother in law can join me.Beings he knows the area pretty well.

I kind of had my suspicions about that stuff. But beings I have had no experience in that area.I wasnt really sure.

Hopefully you and a bunch of others will validate my thinking.

This is why I hate our state.   Just curious why you applied for it if you didn't think it was special.   Had an extra 5 bucks burning a hole in your pocket and saw the draw odds. :dunno:

I would give my left nut to draw either of those tags.

kinda what I was wondering,
You would have a 5 gallon bucket of left nutts if you could trade one for either of those tags!

As a matter of fact I did have an extra $5 in my pocket.

But I put in for it because Ive never hunted the east side before. Was hoping that against all odds I might draw a tag that would offer me a chance to bag a nice buck.Believe me I can appreciate good things.

I take my hunting pretty serious. And will do my best to make it a quality hunt no matter the outcome.I cant believe you would question my motives without even knowing me.

I guess I dont understand why that would make you hate this state.Jealusy(sp),I dont know.

Should a person only apply for a tag area that they have an intimate knowledge of.Thats what I'm reading from your post.Or should they try to get as much knowledge of an area as they can once they get drawn.Or if they plan to hunt it.
Have you ever hunted an area that you didnt know all the ins and outs of?I bet you have.Thats part of how we gain knowledge.

HntnFsh,
Send me a pm when you find out which tag it is and i will help you out as much as I can.  I went with a friend that drew the entiat tag a couple years ago and I have hunted the swakane during the general season.

I don't think its jealousy, its the irony of the drawing in this state, one guys lives and breathes  to draw a tag like those and another guy puts in on a whim (so too speak)
Congrats on your tag, I'm sure you will make it count.

HntnFsh,  Dont' worry about it. Guys on here will always give you a hard time if you draw a good permit, especially when you don't hunt that unit on a regular basis. I don't understand why. I drew the Entiat in 2004 and had never hunted it before. Big deal. If I drew a moose permit this year I would be hunting an unfamiliar unit. You have just as much right to apply for the permit you drew as anybody else. It will be a good hunt. You will have fun for sure. Odds of a monster buck aren't great, but you will see a lot of deer, and not a lot of hunters.

If you have to ask if it is truly a quality hunt. Then yes please dont apply. Leave it to the guys that have YEARS of experience on the area and know what it is to draw one of those tags. I am in aw that you would even ask that question and not expect to get bashed.
