I agree with some of the "Quality" hunts, but there are others in that category that are nothing more then a longer season. No real chance at a true trophy, but definately less competition.
Kind of like me drawing my "quality Deer" tag, either (and I hope) it is L.T.Murray, where I have hunted for 20 years for elk, and know chances are good to get an O.K. deer (3 pt+)
or I get to actually hunt archery during the blacktail rut (first week of November) south of Olympic Nat. Park (536)

Look, not bitching because the guy drew a tag where he never put in before.  That's fine - I drew the tag and had never hunted there a couple of years ago.  The difference was that I fell out of my chair when I found out I drew - I knew that the Entiat was a potentially GREAT unit.  I wasn't questioning if it "was so special."

So, not at all upset by the fact someone drew a great unit and hadn't hunted there - just kind of in shock that the guy put in for the unit, apparently picking the name out of a hat, was lucky enough to not only pick the right name but then to draw it, and then wonder if it was really a big deal.  Just kind of amazing.

Just like the CF. Not a trophy unit, but only ten deer hunters with an additional 24 days in November.  :dunno: Not too bad.

Yeah, long season and few hunters. Fun hunt, even if it isn't necessarily for "quality" bucks. It's still a quality hunt for those other reasons. But it's not any better than some of the other hunts that for some reason didn't make the quality category and got stuck in the regular "buck" category instead.   :dunno:

Halflife 65,
Didnt really just pull the name out of the hat.I did apply because of the reputation of the unit.I do have a little knowledge of it.Not a lot though.

I think maybe I just didnt realize the full potential of that unit during that time frame.

Should they have a requirement that you scout 16 weeks a year for 5 years before you can put in for that spot?

I would give my left nut for them to do that. That would weed them out quick. Maybe i would have a fighting chance then.

I like the question.
Quality...

Is a Quality Inn special?  Maybe some are, maybe not.  You don't wan't to be caught up in somebody telling you that this is quality.  You have to figure it out for yourself and do your homework.  Lest you stay in the Quality Inn at Vegas and assume you have found the best.

In my opinion, "quality" is entirely what you make out of it.
If you were after a trophy of a lifetime, you probably would have spent some time researching before making a choice of what to apply for,
But because you don't seem to be aware of what the potential is for the area, you will most likely be happy with any decent buck, but that is fine, as long as you are happy with it.
Many years ago I hunted the Swakane during late Archery, and the place was loaded with 30 inch Mulies, but I only hunted it once since the fires of '94

As for myself...
I applied for, and got drawn, for one of two hunts just for the opportunity presented to get a buck.
I am a Trad archer, and mostly hunt elk, and shoot any deer dumb enough to stand in front of me that is legal.
I either get 3 extra weeks to hunt deer (2 pt + buck only), or I get to be one of a few deer hunters during a late archery elk season ( Any Buck), depending on which one I drew,
Either way, I will be happy to get a legal buck, no matter what size, and it will be a quality experience for me.

Garrett Grubbs of East Wenatchee bagged this 8x7 (counting eye guards) in the Swakane on a permit.

It appears I also have finally drawn either the Entiat or Swakane.  Took me twelve years of trying for those two hunts plus the Chiwawa thrown in there a couple times.  Was afraid to look until they are declared "official" but my brother talked me into it.  So....hopefully it holds up.  I have hunted the Entiat quite a few times so I am pretty familiar with it.  The Swakane I haven't been in as much.  But, whichever one I drew I will be in it many times between now and then.  Believe me, I will do my best to make the most of it.  Someone pinch me.

I don't have anything against you - just taken a little aback with the way that you phrased your response to drawing that tag.  It seemed like you had just won the lottery and then decided to not take it seriously.  Anyway, by your comments since your original, obviously you do take it seriously, so good luck and I hope I see a picture of your buck in November/December.  There can be some REALLY good bucks in that unit.
