This point system guarantees nothing.  Even with max points, you're still lucky to draw.

I could hear WDFW snickering and rubbing their hands together when they took my money with 6 points... :(

These results are interesting, the results appear to be pretty split all the way across.

Even with 20 years worth of points I figure our odds are less than 25:1 in any given year.  Like they said, you just gotta get lucky.

So...some quick math.

If there are 1000 people that put in for one tag.  If everyone that puts in averages 5 points each, add the "multiplier"

25 X 1000 is 25,000 names in the hat.  If you have 10 points, that puts your name in the hat 100 times of the 25,000 total.

That gives you a 1 in 250 chance in getting drawn with 10 points?

If I did my math right, why do people freak out when they have 15 points and haven't been drawn yet?

For moose, there are 78 bull permits instead of one, and more like 50,000 total applications instead of 1,000.  Everyone gets four choices, so divide the 50,000 by 4 and you wind up with 12,500 hunters for 78 permits.  So 25 x 12,500 = 312,500 total numbers in the hat.  78 tags, so for each tag there's approximately 4,000 names in the hat.  You have 100 numbers with your 10 points, so your odds should be around 1:40.   Someone with 15 points (225 chances in hat) should be around 1:17.  Add in their 15 points for sheep and goat, and someone with 15 points for each should be drawing around 1:10 blended odds each year for all three species.  Definitely no guarantees there, but there's still gonna be some serious disappointment each year when they don't draw.

In '08 there were 26 Bull tags in the 49 unit. 14,000 applied that year for those 26 tags. I don't know where they came up w/that number because of the 4 choices. I know more then 14,000 applied for moose tags. Was this number from there first choice? BTW, 49 was my first choice that year.

It means 14,000 people had 49 Degrees North as one of their four choices.
