Late Palouse Tag and Colville River 2nd Tag
« on: June 21, 2010, 08:17:00 PM »
I went out on a limb because I have a buddy that is an outfitter and put in for the Palouse tag.  He has a 2500 acre ranch for us to fill our 2nd tags in the Colville River area, but he lost his lease on a ranch in St. Johns.  Anybody know of any public land in Gmu's 127-142 or have any private land that they wouldnt mind me and the fiance hunting?

There is plenty of public land in 142.  Check out down on the Snake...  Also, knocking on doors was a successful way to get permission while I was in school in Pullman.

I hunted the snake too when I lived in Pullman, but its all Muleys until you get up into the flats which is about 99 percent private. The bad part is the tag is only good for 3 point minimum bucks with flags.

I havent been able to get drawn there in 4 years now, but I miss hunting SE Montana along the powder river and seeing hundreds of deer per day.

I know what you mean.  My first time there I passed on about 5 bucks the first day before laying the hammer down on a 20" wide 4x4.  Now I wont even take my gun off my shoulder unless its a couple inches outside of its ears

I hear that.  I didn't realize the tag was whitetails only.  I killed a whitetail every year while in Pullman, and they were all on private ground.  I would head over this summer and talk to some farmers.  They seemed more receptive if you didn't wait until hunting season to ask permission.
