Need some help...
« on: June 23, 2010, 08:58:44 PM »
O.k. after all this draw crap is done i need some help... I didn't draw a tag. can someone help me find some elk? Now that i don't have a tag i need a honey hole to hunt. Can someone please give me detailed directions on how to find elk? Maybe a unit name, plus some ridges and roads to said ridges...
A mapquest map would help.

Please.

Read some books on where the elk live.
Talk to some Washington State Bio's.
Pay for a plane ride and look for them.

That works great

Follow these directions and you will find some good quality bulls.  If you need a hand getting one out, dont call me.  Oh yeah if anyone asks, you found these directions on the side of the road.

From Portland and points south
Traveling north on I-5, take the US 12 exit to Morton and Mount St. Helens. Turn left onto SR 7 to Elbe. You will come to a "T" at Elbe. Turn left on SR 706 to Tacoma. Near Alder Lake you will see a sign for Eatonville. Turn right onto SR 161 traveling to Eatonville. Follow SR 161 through Eatonville. Northwest Trek is six miles north of Eatonville on SR 161 on the right side of the highway.

Seriously, start scouting the 520 Winston unit in the St Helens Tree Farm. Usually the gates are only open on the weekends, but you can hike or mountain bike back behind the gates anytime. Go in around near Kid Valley off SR 504 and hit either the 500 line or the 1000 line.  It is a must to have a Weyerhauser map if you havent been in the unit before. There are tons of elk in the unit, but there will be tons of hunters as well.  Good luck and happy hunting.
