Rigging Texas rags?
« on: June 23, 2010, 08:51:41 AM »
Being a Texan, I should know how to do this but we used to just wrap them around tuffs of rice stubble.  I can’t seem to get them to stay on the stick or keep them from just drooping limp and lifeless.

How do you rig these on stakes and get them to flutter in the wind and to stay on the stakes?  What is a good material to use for the stakes?

wind helps. the sillosocks aren't as cheap as texas rags, but have a 'no wind' support system to keep their body up if you dn't have wind:

I like the mix up the spread a bit with good quality decoys too so that once the geeese come into your patch of white, they have a reason to stay.

I have about 1k Texas Rags.  We fold them in a triangle and tie all 3 corners.  I typically leave a loose knot at the neck and base so I can slide the dowl through and then tighten.  I use white electricians tap at the top, so they don't blow off.  Then staple from the bottom of the sock out towards the tail leaving about 4-6 inches at the end not stapled to alow the sock to fill with air and move around.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
