Yeah no point in scouting unless you just want to learn the roads... Id scout the week before your hunt.

learning the roads and knowing what kind of terrain is up high vs down low might prove very worthwhile.  The better you know an area the easier and more comfortable you are in getting around said area.  Even if you aren't picking out specific animals.

Awesome draw. How many points did you guys have? I didn't draw a late muzzle tag with 8 points. I have no luck this year.

Mike and I drew the tag with 5 or 6 points. I think it said 5 pnts used. We drew as a team. I'm friggin stoked. I will have to see about getting a few day's off eary so we can head over and scout it out. JJ we will definately have to hook up while we are over there.

My words of wisdom for you Alta muzz guys are this, the area gets hit pretty hard between rifle permit guys and the 25 muzz tags. Don't be afraid to get away from the popular areas like Lookout Mt and the other Libby Cr areas.

Snow will dictate where you will be hunting, for sure. Good luck; that's one of my near-and-dear areas. :) 'grats on the draw!
I am not opposed to golf, for I suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering deer.

Great late tag.  Pray for snow, the big boys will hold up high till the last possible second.  The Alta is a huge migration unit, it all depends on what the weather does.  No weather, you best lace up your boats and get up where the air is thin.  I spend a lot of time in the Alta unit during all seasons.  Scotting now will only teach you the area.
Will hunt for food.

This is a quality deer tag. Especially if you are willing to get off the road and put some miles under your feet. Alot of guys just want to drive around and road hunt which is ok if thats your cup of tea. But to get into the quality bucks you need to put distance between you and the roads. It also doesn't hurt to do a snow dance out there and pray for the white stuff.

I hunted there about 12 years ago with the Nov rifle permit.  Most of the deer will be in the lowest part of the unit in that open bitterbrush within a few miles of the Methow River.   Didn't see any deer in the high country.  During the rut, the does migrate down to the wintering ground by the first part of Nov whether there is snow or not.  The wintering grounds are also the breeding grounds in Nov so where you find does, you'll find bucks.  I also found that if there was no bitterbrush, there weren't many deer.  Look for those brown bitterbrush hillsides and glass them hard and you'll find them.

Hunt low, and where the does are. The bucks will be following the does as they migrate down.

Check out the thread a couple of years ago on Bone's Alta hunt.  Very instructive.  If I remember correctly, he started low and then worked higher and higher each day until he got into the migrators...  Good luck!
