Which compound for a 12 yr old Girl??
« on: June 23, 2010, 11:35:43 AM »
My daughter has shot a longbow since she's been about 6 and frankly, she's not into shooting too much. She definitely likes to go with me to shoots and also wants to hunt when she gets old enough (12 here in MT)... But the longbow is NOT going to cut it. Matter fact, she's small enough that I'm not sure even a compound will work? What do you guys think?

She just turned 11... if I get her shooting a compound this summer and all along through the next year...will she be ready to shoot deer/lope sized game?

What model youth compounds might work?

Thanks

Check out the Diamond Razor Edge.  30-60# weight range, and 19-29 inch draw range.  Bowtech makes a similar bow, the Sergant, but it's lowest poundage is 35.
Hunt hard and shoot straight!

Might also look at the Parker Sidekick Extreme.  Nice bow, was going to buy my 13yo one but his draw is already at 28" so no room to grow.  He ended up with a new Diamond Rock 50-60 lbs.

The Soldier offers Binary™ technology in a value-priced bow. Boasting a draw length range of 22"-29", and two available peak draw weight versions offering the adjustability of 25 to 65 pounds, the Soldier has the greatest amount of adjustability available in our bow line. A 4-arrow quiver, 3-pin fiber optic sight, capture arrow rest, wrist sling and peep sight completes this new addition

they have 2 sets of limbs one 25-40 and then 40-65lbs...The Soldier has a better cam than the Razor edge and a string stoper on it and a 6 arrow quiver.

If one of these bows was set at say.....35#... what might it shoot a 350 grain arrow at? (speed wise)... I guess I"m probably talking 24" draw??

the bowtech would be about 185 fps at 35lbs 350 gr arrow at 24" draw. but you can get arrows under 350gr for it.
if you had a arrow at 275 gr. it would be about 209 fps.

My 12 yr old has this bow and likes it a lot.  the technology will change well before kids out grow this bow, ....if they ever do.
Rather be in the woods.
