Jeremiahs Mount Spokane Cow Moose
« on: June 23, 2010, 05:57:34 PM »
I am going to follow in Moose Eyes steps.

Jeremiah is 10 and passed his hunters education when he was 8.  I didnt feel confident when he was 8 or 9 to let him pack a rifle while out hunting.  So instead i figured that he would just shadow me another couple years.  This past year i let him shoot some grouse on his own and bought him a diamond edge bow to shoot around the house.  I figured if he could take care of that bow that it was a step in the right direction.  This will be his first big game hunt where he will be packing a rifle.  Ever since he was young i would ask him what he wanted to go hunting for and his reply was always moose.  I told him how the Washington draws were and informed him that it would probally be along time before drawing a tag.

The day i checked the backdoor results and saw selected for youth moose was exciting but very nerve racking due to the redraw a couple years ago.  On Monday morning Jeremiah was jumping on my bed yelling its official i drew Mount Spokane.  Since then i have been talking back in forth with my uncle that lives in Otis Orchards.

Our plan is to hit two scouting trips in September where i will be packing my bow for whitetails.  We are making this a family hunt where it will be my 3 kids, wife, my dad, my step mom, and my uncle.  Most likely the two other kids will be in Otis Orchards with my aunt but when the moose hits the dirt they will get the call to help with a family packout.  To say the least our whole family is pretty exicted about this hunt.

Thats what I love to see.  A young kid getting an early start hunting with his family.  I think my son was 10 when he shot his first grouse, then 12 when he shot his first whitetail doe.  Those early experiences changed his life forever.  Now he's 29 and lives for hunting. I'm glad to see you getting him started since he is interested.  Its just the beginning of a life full of memories for him.  I still remember my first hunt with my dad when I was 13.  I shot a blacktail doe and a spike elk that year.  I'll cherish that memory of my first season hunting long after my dad is gone.

Jerome.. Outstanding!  Got your text and I unfortunately only drew the 2nd deer tag.  Have your friend email me and I can help him out for the Whidbey 2nd deer .... Tell your son I can't wait to see the video of him taking his moose and you packing it out!

I have no doubts if you didnt draw a elk tag in every state that you would be on the camera in Spokane.
