Store bought eggs?
« on: June 23, 2010, 08:05:11 PM »
Hitting the river this weekend and have no eggs. Just wondering if any of you guys have used the the pre done stuff from the stores. Ive seen the refrigerated kind in a tub and various types of vacume sealed eggs. Think theyd be worth a try or maybe forget about it and fish some other ways?

I was just on a guided trip on the Cowlitz and we ran out of eggs half way through the day. The guide told us not to worry and we just ran corkie/yarn/fuzzy balls and dipped it in the egg juice and shrimp juice and did fine. I think if you bought one container of eggs and just used it for scent you would be fine. :twocents:

Buy some prawns from your local Safeway, or other quality grocery.  Get the Arctic Prawns.  They work just as well as Sand Shrimp and you get about a lb. for the same price as 12 shrimp.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Yep, cure the prawns with your favorite egg cure and cut into bait sizes and you are good to go.

don't get too upset if you don't have eggs for steelhead...sand shrimp or prawns work every bit as well.

salmon on the other hand, the only thing that comes close(at least for kings) are tuna balls.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

When you are up in the wilderness the eggs in a carton are great, no broken eggs.  I couldn't taste the difference, but who complains about the food when you are camping or a 6 hour ride back to base camp.

good idea, I hadn't thought about that. I had them in airtight jars and they molded up in about a week in the fridge.

Be sure to vac pac them in the jar before you freez. They will last for several years. If you don't use them you can put them back in the freezer and re-freez without breaking the seal. With bags it can crush the eggs when they thaw if you don't punch a hole in the bag. Just some food for thought.
