blocktopper
« on: June 23, 2010, 08:40:31 PM »
does anybody know how long a blocktopper should last. i put the stuff on a 50lb mineral block a few days ago and went to look at it tonight and it was pretty much gone. put the stuff on like the directions said but it sure didnt last long. i dont think the deer would have eaten or licked it that fast or am i wrong. i was kinda under the assumption that it turned into a shell but maybe i was wrong. thanks

I have used it before and it doesn't last long at all.  A week tops.   :dunno: The rain can also eat away the block topper as well.  I didn't get good results as for deer hitting the block topper.  I will try it again since I have another bottle.  It seems to be a good idea but blacktails are kinda weird.  Do you have a camera on your block?

Good questions!  I used apples and peanut butter on my last setup and the raccoons and possums loved it .  Deer not so much :bash:  I heard of cob (corn, oats, and barley) working at times.  Oh, I did put out some stump licker and I have had a doe hit that a few times.  I will keep trying to see what works best.  Keep me posted on your setup.

I have heard the store bought apples will not work compared to wild/fresh of the tree apples.  When the apples start dropping I will change my setup.

as long as it smells sweet they will eat it i have used many things and never had anything they would not eat. sometimes you can get a load of cull apples from the orchards and they are pretty cheap and a lot better then buying them from the store

ok i have used this stuff for the last couple years...stuff works well...but my opinion is that it increases the speed that the salt disolves into the ground...

i have seen on a bunch of my stands that the deer wont eat on the block toppers untill 2 weeks to a month after ive put this stuff down. But it does work. I have seen on almost every block, several months later there is holes in the ground..probably 3x larger than the size of the salt block, several feet deep...it is amazing they will remove(eat) so much dirt...

Anyways...stick with it...if there are animals in the area...they will eat it...!

they remove the dirt because they eat it :chuckle: it is funny we have several spots on our ranch from cattle blocks were the deer have dug 3-5 feet in the ground after the salt
