Pics of the Wenaha
« on: June 24, 2010, 02:28:59 PM »
Anyone have pics of the East Wenaha. I love scenic pics and I want to show my dad what it looks like. If you have some pics of elk you killed in there throw them in too. I love the Blues Mountains.

Here are a couple of pics of us deer hunting in the Wenaha a few years back.  Sorry about your luck.

Oh, I found another one.  This is at the edge of the Dayton Unit looking into the Wenaha.  Pretty country, obviously devoid of elk.

Thanks for the pictures. I am excited for the hunt. I know there is great elk in here and I am going to hunt my a$$ off for a trophy.

You said on another thread that you were planning to hunt it off horseback, right?

THat is actually probably the best way to hunt the Wenaha.  There are several good horse trails in and out of there.  Lots of good camps in there, not hard to find. I always said that if I drew the Wenaha or the Watershed that is how I would hunt it; borrow a couple of horses to get deep, then hunt on foot from there.  I missed it earlier, did you draw rifle, bow or muzzy?

Well, you might have a little company then, but still should be a great hunt.  Bugle every once in a while.  You may still get a reflex response.  They were still making noise in mid-October when we were in there deer hunting when those pics where taken.  Sounds like you have a good plan.

My buddy said they see an outfitter every once in a while but usually it's just them. Iade sure I had
a plan before putting in. I figured it was coming sooner or later.

Actually, about the ONLY thing we saw on that trip was a cat.  CoryTDF saw what he was pretty sure was a cougar on the 3rd day in there, but it was gone in an instant, no time for a shot or even to confirm 100% that is was a cougar.   Not even a glimpse of a deer in 4 days (which is why we havent hunted there again).  There were several bulls in there, like I said, still bugling, we caught was glimpses of them, but nothing we could score.  THey were down in the thick timber.  I have seen plenty of 320 to 350 bulls in the Wenaha though, usually glassing from a high point into it.  Are you going to scout it this summer?

I have never hunted East Wenaha, only the west (it used to only be a single unit until a couple of years ago).  I will keep my ears open though, and if I learn anything useful, I'll send you a PM.

I hate to sound like an idiot but I do all my forum stuff from my iPhone since I don't have a computer. Is a PM a private message sent to my email?  Thanks for all your help. I am extremely excited about this tag and trip. My understanding is it's a great group I am going with.
