Not if you don't mind brush. There's some dandy bulls and bears there.

I have hunted it quite a bit. One road going through the middle of the island and a few trails here and there. Very thick, if you don't spend a lot of time learning the island you will get to chasing elk and get yourself turned around pretty bad. Not trying to discourage you as it is an excellent hunt, just need to know what you are getting into first. It can be addicting because you almost always get onto the elk but they are many times just like ghosts with glimpses here and there before they disappear.
Ok, had to go back and edit a bit. Just noticed this was in deer hunting . I have seen a few nice bucks out there but would not recommend the island for an archery deer hunt.

I agree with Mike450r, there are a $hit load of bears out there and some elk, but in the three years that I hunted on the island, I only saw two bucks. One little fork-horn and a nice three point. There is a reason they call it Fantasy Island and it's not because of good stuff. The salal brush is literally 8-feet high in places and the misquotes are as thick as they are in Alaska as are the no-see-ums in the winter. Don't get me wrong, I loved the challenge, but never nailed a good animal out there. If you are looking for a good archery deer spot in your area PM me.

I hunted the Island years ago, and plan on doing it again one day..I have yet to come off the Island without a deer..I've got all my deer out of Reef Meadow..It is thick just like everywhere eles on the westside, but thats why its call hunting..

I am trying to get my friend to leave his boat at his dads (Ilwaco) so I can hunt it this September, as I will be hunting/fishing near Naselle anyhow.

I really won't be worried about that permit until after Elk season, after all, August is Bear, and scouting Elk, September is hunting Elk, October I will scout for deer, November I will hunt for Deer.
I understand it will be my own fault if I don't get a deer, but I really haven't learned how to respect them yet.
Having never harvested a Blacktail bigger than a small 3 pt, but several (good eating) "little" ones, they are not as high on my list of priorities as Elk.
I get a deer almost every year, but only get an Elk on the average of once every 6-7 years.
I know that a trophy Blacktail is one of the hardest animals to harvest, but I am not as serious of a Deer hunter. (yet)
I have never harvested a bear, so I wil be on the lookout for one, and will (hopefully) check out Long Island in early September.
I will be contacting all the nice sportsmen that have offered advice some time between now and Oct 31st, Thank you for the support !!
And I hope I have Elk Steaks for the fire (Yum!!)
