Bore sight bullet

I need to sight in my new scope and was thinking about buying one of the bore sight bullets and doing it. Has anyone used them? Are the worth the money to get sighted into a ball park area? My scope is so far off that can not fire it and get it sighted in.

Is it a bolt action? If so all you need to do is remove the bolt, and then while looking at a target through the bore, adjust the crosshairs to the same point.

I have a set that I use for my guns. They work good if you use them correctly.

i was gonna buy one of those things, but after thinking about how often i wouldn't use it, i took my rifle to the range where they boresight for free. i was about 3" high and a little left on my first shot, 5 shots later i was dialed in.
i won't be buying any boresighting tools any time soon.
if i plan on buying guns and scopes or swapping scopes a lot and it would be worth buying, then i might.

Well my new one is way the hell of were a box of shells I could not hit the target to even start. It is my bolt action 243.

Well...how far were you shooting? You should start out at 25 yards, especially if you didn't already bore sight it. Use a big target and shoot at 25 yards, I don't think you'll miss.

What distance did you start sighting it in at? If you just put on a new scope you should have shot it at 25 yards to start.

the first shots out of my new 243 were at 100 yard targets, like i said, 3" high and a little left...no joke...i was amazed. maybe you should come up to the kenmore range and let the rangemaster boresight your gun for you.

It was at 25yrds . The target was 12"x12"

if you aim your barrel at a spot on the wall. you obviously need to strap the gun somehow. but anyway aim your barrel or sights if you have them, then mount your scope and dial it in to that spot. I have done it twice and it seems to work pretty good. it will get you within a foot of so. It is worth a shot.

well...its about the same amount of work...you're doing the same thing. i've done it with the bolt pulled out at about 25 yards, look down the barrel and dial the scope in to around about the center of your view. you have to clamp the gun in place just like if you are boresighting.

But what he described IS boresighting!  And it's easier than it sounds. That's how I've always done it. But I do it at the range with my rifle on the sandbags, just before I sight it in. You don't need to clamp it down or anything. When I've done it it has got me within a couple of inches at 100 yards. Your 12"x12" target was too small and you were probably just off it by a little bit. If you had taken the bolt out and looked down the bore at your target, you would have at least seen which way it was off. I sure wouldn't pay $30 to have it done when you can do it yourself for free, and it is only a matter of spending a couple of minutes looking through the bore and adjusting the crosshairs.

I have one of the laser boresight tools, multi caliber bushings with laser sticking out the end of the barrel. Bought it with my 300RUM due to the high cost of ammo. I thought I would save some cash. Tool worked awesome. Simply figure your anticipated ballistic trajectory for that round, figure where your round should be at 25 yards, (taking into consideration the height of your scope in relation to your barrel), lay the gun across the hood of your truck aimed at paper at 25 yards and dial the scope in on the red dot. Worked awesome. My first three rounds thru the gun, at 100 yards were just a bit high left. Had the gun sighted in with maybe six rounds.

One advantage to the lazer boresighters is that you can mark a target where your point of impact is to use as a reference if you ever drop your gun.

i"ve got the old style bore sighter with the all the different caliber stinger that you clamp the round black thing on to. that was an intelligent sentence. it work pretty good. 99 times out of a 100 it will put you on the paper at 100 yards first shot. i bet you can pick one up pretty cheep now a days. Ive had mine for 15 or 20 years. and at the price of ammo it won't take long to pay it off. looks like less than 20 bucks on ebay.

I agree. I always do that sort of thing myself without the "kit".

start at 10 feet, if you cant get on paper and get it to a 'bulls eye' at 10 feet something is wrong, way wrong!

then back up. 25 yards etc.

Have you rechecked your mounts etc?
