How to identify Leupold scope model?
« on: June 25, 2010, 06:59:01 PM »
I have a rifle that I am hoping to sell and it has a Leupold scope, but I am not sure what price to put on the rifle without knowing a little more about the scope. There are no markings on the body other than "Leupold" on the side, a serial number and a gold ring at the big end of the scope.  It is a 3x9 power and smaller (40mm?) objective.   I will try to attach some pics.  Any ideas?? :dunno:  Thanks!  Michael

It should say omething in fine print just above the gold ring, looks like a VX-II to me though.

270shooter:
You are correct on both counts.  It was stamped in really small letters that I couldn't see holding it at arms length - I needed to put the dang thing right up to my nose to see them.  I have had the thing for several years and never found those stamps and I have looked several times.  For some reason I thought it would be gold lettering that was better visible.  Never the less.....VX-II.  Not to figure out how much used ones are going for (rifle and scope) I will be on my way to the classifieds......
Thanks!
Michael

Is it a VX-II or VariX-II? There is a difference.

What is the difference? Is the VX just a newer version of the Vari-X?

It was all discussed here:    http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=4894.0

Basically, the new VX-II is the equivalent of the old Vari X-III. The main difference is in the coatings on the lenses.

I remember reading that thread.  Made my head spin... :o
