What fanny pack do you guys use out west?

I'm wanting a new fanny pack for bowhunting here in Michigan. I have one that's 20 years old that I used elk hunting out west and it served it's purpose - sandwitches and water - realized if I didn't eat it or drink it, I didn't need to haul it up the mountains.  That said, I would like something that I can carry a bit more in but less than my big Magnum back pack.

I looked at the two Cabelas offerings and several Badlands models as well. These seem too heavy and have more foam padding than I need - I just want carry my usual items less than a 1/4 mile to my treestand. Either single or dual shoulder straps will do as long as they are removable - I don't need a water bottle pouch but I can put something else in it.  Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

i like the mathews 3;16 pack by blackcreek it carrys the bow great for when im riding in and out.  good straps enough room for extra coat and i use the top pocket for water bladder

I have the Badlands Tree Hugger.  Not too small and not too big.  I looked at the Monster, but figured if I'm going that big, then I'll use a backpack.  With the Tree Hugger I can get some food, water, and small size survival gear stuff in it.  Also, it keeps me from taking too much stuff, which I tend to do.  Anyway, it's good for day hunting a couple of miles away from camp/car.

I generally only see fanny packs on capital hill and san fransico.  They generally are matched to a particular outfit so its hard to say that anyone is better than another

go to www.nimrodpacks.com and look at their pinnacle day pack it is basically a fanny pack.  The nice thing about nimrod stuff is it is built on a basebelt and shoulderstrap system so you can add bigger backs or smallerpacks, accessories, combine packs, and they even have a packframe that can't be beat.  Their stuff is tough as nails and I honestly don't see how you could ware one out.  To put it in perspective these are the guys that make backpacks for wildland firefighters.  ya they are tough!

my hunting partner uses the nimrod pack. works great for him plus you can keep adding attatchments and theyll sew additional straps on the older models to match up with new design.  the only thing i didnt care for was the material and there were no tit. or aluminum stays to keep it propped up and not sagging like the newer packs have.

I was upset to find that Badlands didn't offer the Tree Hugger in hot pink.  They only have this Reartree AP or Max 1, or whatever it's called.  It's totally going to mess-up my outfit.  Oh well, I have to keep reminding myself function over fashion.

If you're wearing a fanny pack - they are called "accessories", not "attachments".

I use a Canadian by Blacks Creek.  It isn't a fanny pack.  I like to be prepared to make the first trip out with meat on my back.

I use the Nimrod system.  I love the size of the fanny pack (sounds pretty gay).  Plus, I add the bow hook to the shoulder straps, which is awesome for the tough climbs, or long pack outs.  I also have the rifle scabbord for the high hunts.

Dont get a badlands, they suck! unless you plan on rifle hunting and shooting 300-500 yards and maybe at that distance the animals wont hear it squeek and make noise.  Go to a store and try a bunch on and dont only look at the expensive ones because they sometimes suck.   sorry guys im still a little upset at spending $150 on a POS pack.

Send it back to Badlands.  And the the monster fanny is NOT a "monster".  I've been harping on Badlands about this pack and it's utter lack of usable storage.  Can't argue or disagree with your sentiment here CSOUTFITTERS.  I had to finally ditch the Hypervent because of noise and squeaks.  I've had three of them and though they say they've fixed the problem, in my opinion it is not resolved.  Under load, it squeaks.

Which one?  I have the Superday and it's been great.  It doesn't have a frame, making it unsuitable for really heavy loads (although it seems tough enough to take the weight - it just wouldn't be comfortable).  Of course, no frame = no squeeks.

I've heard before that the Hypervent and others do squeek, so I want to make sure that I avoid them.

I personally love my badlands I have the 2200 ( no squeaks )and plan on purchasing the 4500 as well. I have no experience with the fanny packs, but that is only cuz my personal preference is to be able to haul out a load if I get an animal down.

I had a Superday that squeaked.  Replaced it with a Blacks Creek Canadian.  Use the Tree Hugger fanny pack for those short, close to camp hunts and the Canadian for those long/full day or short over nighter's.

I haven't used a badlands fanny pack but I have a couple of their daypacks and the 2800 and love them all. no squeaks at all. I have there small pack(not sure the name) the one that's basically a hydration pack with a little storage and tied a whole deer to it and drug it uphill for 1-1/2 miles and couldn't get it to break. I was sure it would and trust me I tried, but not even a slight tear.

Maybe the squeaks were caused by the type of clothing under neath? I've had a lot of other packs that mad all sorts of different noises depending on what they were riding on.

I sugest a light back pack , just in case you need to cary extra clothing , one with a hyro pocket in it. the bitch i have about most of them is the zipper tabs rattle .

For small items I carry a High Sierra Scout from CostCo. Has some nice pockets and a water pack built into it. Comfy too.

I had the Diablo which was a good size and could hold a spotting scope but it squeaked alot.  The more weight i put in it the more squeaks it had.   I took it apart and tried to put some felt/moleskin on the frame part that was rubbing, but it did not work.  I traded it for a monster fanny and that seems to work but i recommend it for a guy that is at least 5-9 or taller.  I'm short so everything is cinched up tight and its still a little loose.  I haven't heard anything bad about their bigger packs.  

Good luck on a pack search.  sounds like a good reason to hit all the outdoor stores and try some on.  My next brand i will try is the nimrod.  They seem to be quiet (fleece)  for bowhunting and still waterproof, plus as stated earlier YOU CAN ACCESSORIZE.

I use the Monster fanny by Badlands. I've only had it for a year and I think its pretty legit. Its comfortable, light and has more pockets than you need in a day hunt. Plus you can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty.

The Badlands packs get very positive reviews from the several people I know who use them. As for squeaking: I heard that complaint from the neighbor kid so I told him to put some weight in it and go USE it for awhile to break it in. He did so and reported back to me that it has been whisper quiet since. When my Schuh pack finally bites the dust the Badlands pack will be at the top of my list for replacing it.

Now to the original question; the Dwight Schuh Hunting Pack is what I've been trying to wear out for about twelve years of hard use. It has a removable fanny pack; so on the rare occasion that I'm hunting close to the rig I can wear it alone. That feature might make me get another Schuh pack when the time comes.

I'm with snapshot on the Dwight Shuh pack. I've had it for several years now and packed elk and deer out with it. External frame, hydration bladder, and 2 removable packs to use separetly if wanted.
