Youth Deer

Hey guys,
My son drew a youth deer permit.
This is our first time to draw any kind of a special hunt.
What is the protocol? Do they send you a tag for the special hunt that you were drawn on? How does it work?

You will receive in the mail a permit which you must have with you during the hunt and with the animal after the kill....this is on top of the hunt license and deer tag which you may already have, or is in the mail too...

these are the threads I love to follow...There is nothing in the world better than young ones getting their critters no matter which kind it is..My grandson informed me he doesn't want to hunt at all..This bummed me out big time,I had him shooting a bow and bbgun and I have a single shot 22 for him to use my dad bought me when I was 5...Between school teachers and his other grandparents they have got him going anti..Good luck all cant wait for stories and pics

I agree. These are the great ones to follow.
My 8 year old also told me that he doesn't want to hunt.  Hopefully he will change his mind down the road.

your kid will have a good time..
you wont have a problem getting him on animals. if you need any help PM me.
we have a house on alta lake not far away and we know that area well.

Congrates on the doe tags.  It is so much fun, watching your kids take their animals.  Just remember if your child turns 16 lets say in May like mine a couple years ago you can still put them in as long as you buy the license before they turn 16.  Gives you one more year.  This year our last daughter turns 16 in Aug. and she drew for the last time!  I am excited!  I have alot of good memories with the does tags.

Chilliwist shouldnt be a  problem a lot of does there.  Let the one shoot their deer and maybe the other one will see it done and might change his mind.

My two are natural born hunters, not shy about pulling the trigger for each of them. We eat what we shoot and they love blasting grouse, ducks, my son his first deer last year. My daughter had doe fever last year and goofed up a shot and wants nothing more than to get her first deer.   I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have hunted the Chillwist last few years and was amazed at the number of dead deer I found last year. I gave up counting deer legs after 200 and saw at least 30 other carcasses. This was all in a a couple of square miles. I talked to and oldtimer that has hunted there for 30 years and they used to see 300 deer a day and were picky about what buck they were going to shoot. This is not the case anymore.

Saw a lot of coyotes and cougar sign. I have told my son not to shoot at coyotes during the season as I am eat it if you shoot it kind of guy. I have since changed my mind on this and will take any coyote I see.
I reported this to the wildlife biologist at the time and he said he was going to look into it but who knows. He stated that the deer break through the heavy snows and get bogged down and the coyotes can run on top of the snow and get at the deer easier.
The kills I saw ranged from a few months dead to fresh kills. Not winter kills.
