I drew the early rifle tag last year, which is a good time to "see whats there".  My hunt was totally different than yours will be, but If I had the late tag I would have access to a snowmobile.  There is quite a bit of ground that will be closed off for driving that you can ride snowmobiles on to get to where you want to hunt.  Don't be fooled, the elk are there.  I spent almost every weekend scouting last year and saw few bulls until the rut neared.  Then the switch came on.  I guarantee there are bulls on the public ground.  I went over in December last year just to see some bulls and there were very few on private property.  It was a mild winter, but even with a heavy one, most of the private ground borders timber company land.  I didnt shoot the biggest bull, but i did see some brutes scouting.  I just couldnt restrain myself. I know my tag was a lot different but feel free to p.m. me if you need.

Beardown, thanks I did see you on here last year, what did you end up getting during that september Hunt?

Spent yesterday out again and finally scored private permission on a big piece that I am setting cams and lick up on next week...looking forward to starting scouting. Does anyone know the breakdown for Arch/Muzz/Rifle 335 tag holders last year. I cant find specific info but doing backwards math from the harvest reports it looks like Rifle 8 of 11 and all 6 pts, archery 3 of 11 1 spike and 2-5 points and Muzzy 0'fer?? Am I reading this right or is my idiot light on!

6X6, that's the way I read it also..   Wonder why the muzzies struck out???  I hope I can put one on the board for the muzzle loaders this year.

yea, seemed odd no 6's or larger for Muzz or archery with under 20% success combined... and 80% success with all 6pts or better w/ rifle. Very late snow or just the ability to close the gap at 2500fps!?! Going to work my ars off to fill this tag with a 6er and see if we can't put one in the archery column as well, can't let those rifle boys and girls completely thrash us!   ;) It seems like there are some real cool guys on here willing to help out...looking forward to returning the favor

Yeah seems cool that there is 1 muzzy, 1 archery, and 1 Rifle all after the same bulls, hopefully all of us strike gold!! Good Luck to both of you on your hunt!!

Wenhunter I have a late cow for teanaway and I live right in Cle Elum,I know a lot of areas that aren't private to find the elk but if you can gain access to a few private spots down low you will have it made.If your gonna be over I would get familiar with the lower areas first since your hunt wont be that high.

Pics of a decent 6x out scouting last week. Over 40 hours so far scouting and knocking on doors. Starting to see some things fall into place...getting stoked!

Could be a lot of reasons.  Rifle guys obviously have an advantage with range.  Could be some muzzy guys held out.  Then there is always the possibility that some guys didn't tell the truth on their report.

Nice bull 6X!  Good luck to you!
