Remounting Scope
« on: June 06, 2008, 07:01:09 AM »
I mounted a scope last night & thought I got the cross hairs lined up verticle but the scope musta moved when tightening er down. I put a half a drop of loc-tite on the screws. I need to redo it & wonder what is the best way to loosen up the loc-tite screws? Maybe liquid wrench or some thinner.

I would think finger nail polish remover.

Heat it up with a hair dryer or a heat gun.

You didnt put Loctite on the ring screws did you? You Only need that on the base screws, but if you did, heat the screwdriver with a flame till its hot, then hold it to the screw for a second or 2 then you can back it on out. The heat from the screwdriver will transfer to the screw and break the bond. Hope this helps.

I have used a hairdryer or heat gun many a time to break the bond from loc-tite.  works like a charm.

ive never used loc tite, just clear nail polish.. but if your using torx screws,, i see no need to use any titghtening agent.

All's well. Heated up the allen head wrench in a candle for a couple seconds & they came right out. Yes I used it on the mount & ring screws. It's on a .300wsm so I don't want the thing to move. Cleaned up the threads before remounting.
