Mudflow Archery Quality Elk
«

Anyone have any input/information on the Mudflow archery quality Elk? I was drawn for this hunt and looking to use every resource to put something together. Anyone else get this tag? As far as I know, this area was primarily set up for winter feeding stations. What about September?

it is a garanteed elk in there, just wait a few days after the opening day and the animals will be pushed to you from toutle, i was in there in may and saw several hundred elk around there. i would wish you good luck , but you dont need it in there.

Not even!!
I had the ML tag last year and it's allot of leg work if you want to be into animals. It can be a great hunt if you are willing to work for it. I talked to several guys several days into the season that hadn't seen anything. They were just driven the roads because it was a garanteed hunt. LOL

go to the obsirvatory glass the bottom, that is the mudflow and start huntin its a descent hike to the bottom or you can turn at the dam and park and walk its a little easier
and you wont have to cross the river from that side

Anyone ever deal with Mark at the Ecopark on highway 504. I know he has the helicopter trips. He has cabins, tent sites, and best of all horses for maybe packing an Elk out? I am on my way to begin scouting and talk to a few people down that way. Maybe check out XXX Archery while I am down that way.
Thank you for the information. More to follow.

Good tag! There are elk all over in the unit. Huntin pard drew it last year and killed a good bull in there. We hunted primarily off the 3000 ( toutle border ), we did alot of scouting, and he killed his elk on the third day after passing up 2 and multiple encounters with others. From what I saw bulls rut all over the valley and both ridges. But dont plan on seeing the numbers from the visitors center that were there in May as the elk move out of the valley into the mountains. The bull he killed was in a bachelor group and overall they werent to talkitive. I am assuming that changes as the rut progresses. We saw the same bulls every day for 5 days and also saw different bulls as they moved through the area looking for cows. The bulls will come in from toutle pressure, but alot of bulls will also cross into toutle in search of cows. Scout alot, walk alot and hunt hard you will see alot of elk but its no gimmee.

Like what was said above. Hunt that tag from the 3000 line down and you will be into elk everyday. Not many stay on the valley floor and your better bulls will be up around the Toutle border.
