Nice bear, did you shoot him out in the sagebrush?

Yeah- i was bow hunting for deer and saw him, so i switched to the rifle and put a sneak on him.  I don't know what he was eating in there, likely hawthorn, mock orange, rose hips?  But he tastes TERRIBLE!!!!

Thats too bad that he doesn't taste good, I guess you could just smother the meat with tabasco sauce or some the condiment to make it a little more bearable to eat. He looks like he would make a good rug though.

Thanks guys-
We tried injecting the roast and wrapping it in bacon...i was not good!  The dog even got the runs.
I'm having a half body mount done, coming out of the wall.

Did you shoot this bear this past season? And when do you get your mount back, you should post some pics of him when you do.

He's my first bear, I shot him in September- I'll make sure to post pictures of the mount when it's done.

I always have a rifle with me during archery in case there is a target of oppurtunity.  For all of you that know the law, can this get us in trouble?

It was in the truck.
There's a thread about guns during archery season, and if it's with youI think it's a violation.
I had the .243 along because there's a bunch of bears in the area and i knew there was a chance I'd see one.

Do any bears taste good?  I imagine maybe one eating berries but I could see why one feasting on sage wouldnt be delicious.

Sort of like deer.  Depends alot on what they are eating. If its where I think it is, these don't particular taste the best.  They eat alot of ants and bugs, and not much on berries.  Few chokecherries and I have found that chokecherry bears also don't taste well. Hallberries aren't too bad.

Blackberries and Mountain Huckleberry bears tasted great!  Fish, not so much.
