Got checked by a Game Warden today
« on: July 01, 2010, 08:51:00 PM »
Out crabbing had the wdfw boat pull up check our crabs and liscenses to make sure we were marking our crabs.  Gave my little girls 4 and 6 free coupons to Dairy Queen for wearing their life vests.  How nice of them.

Good to hear. the first GameWarden i ever met, was when i caught my first steelhead, i was 17 at the time, the Game Warden observed this as well, i proudly carried my wriggling fish to him, introduced myself and asked for a pen, as an excuse to talk to him, being that i was considering a track towards that carreer, he introduced himself to me as well, by giving me a ticket. this was back in the early 80's and this guy, along with his son who is a GW now, had quite the rep as being fing pricks, along with many others. In the last recent years however, i have had many very friendly contacts with Gamies, seems that the old guard (asses) are finally retiring or promoting out of field work. i have great hopes for these younger guys and gals, that are taking over the roll. of course, every garden has a few weeds.

Gearhead...what did you do to deserve the ticket?

So...even if you don't catch a fish they can write a ticket for not having a pen on your person ???

Didnt intend to jack the thread, sorry. the gamie was beside me when i hooked and landed the fish. i was talking to him and telling him it was my first steelhead and was asking about the job, we spoke for abit about that then i asked for a pen, and he gave me a ticket for failing to record my catch, immediately. he turned out to be ass, no point talking about it, as it was long ago.  this was in maybe 83, took it to court, because i didnt know much, but did know bs when i heard it. it was then that i realized the ticket was criminal and i would have a criminal record. i was in court with car thieves, burglars and shoplifters, so when it was my turn to be standing tall before the man, the bailiff read the charges, and the whole court room giggled. i didnt even have to explain myself, the judge told me to have a nice day and then said, Next!  had a run in with his son at the elliot bay launch, in 95, a real gdmn prick he is, talk about the apple falling off the tree, he was deliberately stopping the vehicles as they pulled thier boats up the ramp, having retrieved their boats, forcing them to stop and blocking traffic at the top, it was quite a back up he was creating, so, a little pissed at the specticle i was witnessing, when i retrieved my boat, i drove up the ramp, told him i was pulling over out of the way of everybody and proceeded maybe 50 feet, to stop, tie down etc etc, this idiot starts shouting at me, going for his gun, or atleast was palming it, and yelling for backup. when i stopped i was so pissed that i think i outshouted him, telling him of my intent. in a flash, he went from all that to, nice guy, asking me about my day, did i catch any fish etc etc, like nothing happened at all, i thought, wow, what a bipolar freak. anyways, i see him a week later launching his seaswirl center console, we have/had the exact same boat, so sure enough, he walks over to talk to me about my boat, after listening and saying nothing back, i finally say: Don't you remember me, he got this funny look, and just walked away.  a week after that i ran into a super nice gamie, undercover type, set me up real good thinking he was a fellow fishermen, anyways, he was a good guy after checking me, i recounted to him the above and he advised he knew the guy and encouraged me to make a complaint as he was making them all look bad, so i did. Wow....nice to vent, thankyou. Anyways, again, that was then, this is now, and i gotta say for the most part, this new generation of gamie is great aside from the occasional bad apple, but every work place has those.

I got checked on the Columbia today. He was a younger guy and was VERY nice. as they pulled up I asked him to come aboard and see our fish and papers. he was just going to stand on my swim step untill I told him he needed to get in the boat because it wasn't safe to stand there and check our liscences. I could tell he was glad I was friendly and  knew he wasn't dealing with a jerk. I hope to see him around more often!!!
