Least expensive method to ship mounts??
« on: July 06, 2010, 08:31:29 PM »
I wanted to see what would be the least expensive method to ship mounts along with possible paperwork required.  My friend is moving to Arizona and has several deer, elk and buffalo head mounts to ship.  A shipping company he contacted wanted about $5k to ship the 7 mounts.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is he building the crates himself? The last elk mount I shipped accrossed the US cost me $450.00 but we crated it ourself. I would have him talk to some local TAxi's down there and may get some good ideas on who and what to use. There are some discount taxidermy shippers that deal directly with taxidermists, I think they work with yellowtruck and if there is a terminal close they could use that. They were 1/2 the price of say fed ex and UPS and seem to have a good track record. I can not remember the name off the top of my head. Just make sure all the mounts are insured for top dolar. Ive sen some pretty messed up stuff from shippers I have repaired before.

That would be my suggstion!  A reasonably fuel efficient vehicle and a U-hual trailer, what a deal.  There's some fun striper fishing on Lake Mead this time of year.
