I like a challenge in a hunt so I go after Cascade Blacktails and you thought the lowland ones were ghosts. So I hunt the Alpine lakes with my girlfriend and we hike in on the Lake Dorothy trail. Then we bushwhack it to are spot in a valley. Last year we had know luck on the high hunt but good fishing and a tasty duck wish i brought some wine. I did call a bear in that took about 2hrs for him to come in so i think he had to have been about 2 or 3 miles away. He came in silently and circled me then he steeped on a log and broke it in half he had to have been about 325-375 pounds then he winded my darn girl friend as she had a better chance for a shot but he bolted when he winded her.....I'm going to get him this coming high hunt! or AUG 1ST!!!!!!!

You packed a duck into the back country to eat? (Surely you did not shoot him out of season...) You must be a very patient fellow if you are willing to sit and call a bear for two hours (with your girlfriend) during your deer hunt! You girlfriend must be a doll!

A lot better places to hunt in the Alpine Lake Wilderness area than near Lake Dorothy. That is one of the busiest hiked areas in the Alpine Lakes area and the deer population is not very high. On any given weekend you will see 30+ cars at the trailhead.

I did a ten day mountaineering trip into the Pasayten five years ago. After the first day, we left the trail to go climb a bunch of peaks. We didn't see any deer along the trail, but after we got a little off the beaten path there were bucks.
One morning I went looking for water, which was hard to find in some places. Hiked out on this ridge lined with larch trees, and jumped a huge muley in velvet. Another night we were camped in this big field of lupine, and three big bucks walked right up to our tent flap and screwed with our gear. They eat wildflowers at night, but you can still find them along the fringes of the meadows at first light.
I like the dry climate of the Pasayten compared to Glacier Peak area. There are a lot of big bucks on the west slope, some mixed 50-50 with blacktails. But the Pasayten Wilderness is hard to beat, especially if you venture far from the trails.

Hard to pick one to vote, I've been in almost all of them during the high hunt, each has advantages and disadvantages, would depend mostly on the type of terrian a guy wants to hunt I would think.

Final choice depends on access, logistics, and desire. The common denominator is this: to get into areas worth hunting, in any of the wilderness areas, the price in sweat is huge. So are the rewards. It's Washington's premier OTC hunt.

First off we got drooped of at the Lake Dorthy trail head and yes alot of trial huggers and carpet munchers we saw on the trip up. It's was funny they saw me with my hunter Orange on and a rifle in my hands and as I went by them they looked scared as hell like I broke out of Monroe St Prison. but when they saw my girlfriend trailing behind me they stopped in there track's and were like what the F*ck and one of them was like are you guy's hunting and I said yes we are and kept hiking.
So after looking at green trail maps and ariel photo's and information from scouting trips. I put a pattern on the deer and found winter migration routes and summer routes and the easiest way in is at Lake Dorthy! So to get to where I hunt it's about 5.4 miles of the trail and for your info the trail huggers only stay on trial!
And for the guy who called my girlfriend a doll she's got a better shot than you jack ass! And as for the duck well let's just say I was fly fishing and it ate my darn fly!

Not so quick Master... Im going with the Henry as well. I hunted Alpine Lakes out of Middlefork last year and it was busy. A lot of hikers pointing the almighty finger at our hunting party. Maybe last year was really bad for that area, but we didnt anything legal till we got above 3500 ft.
I think the Henry has a lot of resident deer that stay in low low lands year round. Not easy pickings, but if you know your area they wont be hard to find
