High country bears!
« on: July 12, 2010, 06:31:22 PM »
Went up to the high country last weekend and had a hell of a time! We saw countless amounts of deer, but the high light was the bears. We were lucky enough to have this guy about 150 out from our tents right before sun down. Then when we woke up we had a really a light colored bear fighting with a big black one! It had to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen in nature. I just though I'd share.... Im pumped for August!

"Yes son, they are fighting." That's what I tell my boy when the dogs are in heat.  :chuckle:

Is that what they were doing? I figured that would happen later in the year.

I wasn't there... :chuckle: but it would be my guess.
They breed late spring/early summer.

I took my son to NW Trek when he was 3 and the cougars were doing that. I told him they were wrestling. Later he walks into the living room and proceeds to demonstrate 2 of his stuffed animals "wrestling".  :yike:

They haven't even budded yet. There was still a ton of snow. In most places the foliage was only a few inches high.

I was up by snow level near Stevens last weekend and the berries are there but small
