Lets see your hunting setup
« on: July 13, 2010, 11:39:35 AM »
I figured it would be cool to have a topic about hunting bow setups(compound, recurve, or longbow)  Just show us/tell us what you are using.

Post a pic if you have one!

Ill give it a go.
Bow= Martin Hunter Recurve 57lbs @ 30 inches.
Arrow= Gold Tip hunter 5575, with 5gpi weight tubes, and 5 inch feathers.  Total weight 573 grains
Broadhead= Traditional Magnus 2 blades
Grip= Bicycle tube wrap. (I recommend this to anyone, best grip I have used)
Rest= bear hair off the shelf
Silencers= cat whiskers

Misc.  Camo Limb Skins

That Destroyer looks sick! That bow might persuade me away from another Mathews next time I get a new one.

65# Fox Longbow; 66" long. Fir arrow w/ full-length taper; three 4" feathers; 160 grain Grizzly broadhead; 660 grains total arrow weight. Camo fleece bag with plastic bag inside slips over feather end of the arrows in the quiver for concealment and weather protection. Great Northern quiver. The B-50 flemish twist string has musk ox silencers on it. Dental floss nock point.

I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. What kind of speed you getting with that?

I'm torn between the speed bows and the maxxis 35 - been looking at the destroyer, the omen, and the alphaburner.  From what I hear you should be getting 280 with that set up .

May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Try this again.... Sapphire Hawk is my current bow.... I have 13 others behind it as backups... all Longbows except for 1 recurve..  down from the 15 I had a few weeks ago!  Sold 2 and added 1.  Just got my new Dan Toelke Whip,  64" and 54@28... but it will sit till after the Nationals for now.  I also have that new Bigfoot Sasquatch coming with 2 sets of limbs... 1 recurve set and 1 Longbow set.  Here is the Saphhire Hawk,  sweetest bow I have shot.

Shot the alpha burner 70#, maxxis 35 60#, and maxxis 35 71# Friday night.  The burner was rough to pull, it's off the list.  The maxxis 35 in 60# had me scratching my head.  I had to ask the in house pro to confirm poundage for me.  It was set at 60, but it was supper silky smooooth, felt like pulling about 15.  At full draw, I think I could have held it for ten minutes easy, if not longer - suppert smooth.  The 71# pound was also smooth and full draw was good. Now I need to track down a 350 destroyer and an omen.....  Man that maxxis at 60 felt like a little kids bow to pull.

Lets see your set up!  This thread is for all of us archers! I thought it would be a good informative topic.  People could use it as an aid to find popular bows/bow accessories.
