G5
« on: July 16, 2010, 03:03:48 PM »
So I just found out from a buddy that he gets 50% off of G5 products. I have a G5 peep on my bow and have heard nothing but good things about their broadheads but never tried them myself. I am an elk hunter with my bow. Any advice or reviews on their broadheads?

Montecs are tough, but they are a bit loud in flight. May not matter much by the time the animal hears it and reacts.

They are a solid head.  I use them with my compound.

the montec is my go to head Adam, they are fantastic solid heads but they are hard to sharpen the best bet for most is have brand new ones for hunting unless you can sharpen well and then have just practice heads for practice as well. they also make a pre season head you can get to practice with as well. have my 2 heads from both elk i have shot both have went threw solid bone and not hardly a nick! great heads

They do make a sharper Montec now. Older ones came sharp, but not as sharp as they could/should.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to have to pick some up and start shooting them to make sure I am ready for early elk season!

Montecs fly great but if you can't sharpen them you might as well be using a field point.  A guy in camp last year shot a bull right through the pumpstation.  Hardly any blood.  Luckily he dropped in sight.  Looked at the holes and the blades actually pushed viens out of the way.  I shot a cow through both lungs 2 years ago with a montec and she ran about 200 yards after 50 yards absolutely no blood, what little that did come out was absorbed by the fur.  I switched to shuttle-t's last year.  fly just as good and I know they are sharp and they leave one hell of a blood trail.

Good luck.

And it was no fun tracking it either!

solid head, hard to sharpen to my liking, whistle slightly in the air after shot, poor blood trails on the animals I have seen shot or have shot with them.I switched this year to slick trick magnums.I know the blood trails they leave behind.

I think the key is to not practice with them and just use new ones to hunt with, they dond hold an edge. The Strikers standard and magnum fly just as well but have replaceable blades. The tips can be sharpened easily on a glass plate.
