Hey NWWA... did you do the field shoot this weekend?
« on: July 18, 2010, 01:43:18 PM »
How'd ya do? Much competition?

I shot here in the Montana "Big Sky State Games"... unfortunately we dont have much of a trad archery group here.... Plus, I shot a 35# bow that I haven't shot in 4 years since my shoulder was screwed up. You would have cleaned my clock... I shot a 249 on 28 targets (14 field, 14 hunter) :dunno: then shot a 370 on 28 animal round today... Pitiful... I know... I still won both days, but there weren't many guys to go against...

How ya do? Did that Sapphire do ok for ya???

We didn't have a tourney this weekend.  Practiced a lot for the upcoming NFAA Nationals (start the 28th).  I have been shooting about an hour a day getting ready.  I shot my outdoor league Wed night,  2 arrows at 15 targets and shot a 166.  There will be some of the best Trad shooters out there at the Nationals,  most shooting recurves (Hoyt and PSE olympic style) barebow and they shoot some pretty impressive scores.  I just want to give them a run with a longbow shooting off the shelf!  I will be dropping my trailer off at the shoot on Thursday so I get a good spot.  Tourney starts on WEd the 28th and runs through Sunday the 1st.  Only complaint I have with that is I miss the opener for bear!  Practicing Thursday I shot 24 arrows at 50, 60 and 70 yards... I scored them all.  I had 23 of 24 arrows count on the 50 yard for a 94 23 of 24 at 60 scored (5,4, or 3) for a 91 and then 20 of the 24 scored at 70 for a 78.  My goal is to beat my personal best which is 329 on a 28 target Field round,  210 on a 14 target animal and 311 on the 28 target hunter round.  Those are my scores from my 2nd ever "field" event which was the Washington State (WSAA) championships.  Good shooting Ernie and hope we get to shoot together sometime.

Excellent, cant wait to hear how you do against those guys... so they'll be shooting there OLY rigs, with no sights is all? Stabilizers and such?

I think with the right bow/arrow combo, maybe something in the 43# range and some 300 grain arrows, I could shoot a pretty dam good score... I might have to get something like that setup for next year....

Thanks and good Luck! :hello:

no sights or stabs allowed but the same OLY bows... I am excited to shoot with them.  That might be a good combo to work up for indoor to.... I am playing with a couple of bows and different weight arrows to be more point on at 20 yards for indoor this winter... Sucks holding at the edge of the bottom of the paper to get the elevation right...

Point on... My best barebow 300 score was like 266 or thereabouts...I had a 33# bow setup with like 700 grain arrows and I was POINT ON.. .It was nice!

Send that riser over and I'll slap a set of 35# limbs on it!  :tung: Also, remember you can run that nock point up pretty darn high and still get great flight...

Matt,  since you have such flexible working hours you should drag my trailer up there for me today!

I might do that after hunting season.... not sure I want to let that bow get away from me for very long though..  :P  My other bows are collecting lots of dust right now!   ;)

Matt,
Drug my trailer up there today.... what a zoo... noticed the black water was semi full.... had dumped it on the way back from Jim Creek on the 4th.... or so I thought.  Dumped water in it before I left there and dumped it at the rest stop.... well it must have only dumped half and clogged.... so spent a few hours at the dump station fixing that.  Got it fixed and was on the way.  All set up just a few trailers down from you,  wanted to make sure I could sleep with al that snoring from your trailer keeping me awake...  :yike:

Its the NFAA Outdoor nationals and its in Darrington, Wa this year.  Its about 80 or so miles for Matt and I,  too far to drive everyday.  Should be a great time!

I'm sure there will be a bunch more register though, between now and the shoot!

Good Luck Ren and Matt!! (what are you shooting Matt??)

Geesh, sorry to flood this post ( I guess its my post...??)...anyhow, I just searched for record scores and it turns out a friend of mine still holds the NFAA outdoor records for Field, hunter and Animal!!! He's from your guys neck of the woods too! I knew he had won some titles through the years, but I didn't know it was record setting stuff.

Adult Male TRAD  (Record Scores for 56 Field - 56 Hunter - 28 Animal and Aggregate Score as of July 2006)

Aggregate    D. Eatmon WA    1994      2395
Animal         T. Driscoll  CA     2004      532
Animal         D. Eatmon  WA    1994      532 *
Field           D. Eatmon  WA    1994      946
Hunter        D. Eatmon  WA    1994      917

That is some unreal shooting. Dave was shooting with us at a barbecue last summer, my dad and two other guys were shooting compounds while Dave and I shot Trad... We had a shooting game going where you would lose points on certain parts of the target, first guy to 100 wins.... we were at 45 yards. My dad is a fair shot with his compound. When Dave it 100, my dad had like 94.... and...being a fair shot myself (Fair, being key word)... I had +7 points!!! (the perimeter of the target was like -5 or something like that!)  He is fun to watch shoot!

That is some awesome shooting!

Matt shoots freestyle,  depends on the day which bow he is shooting.  I know he has a new bow,  can't remember the name right now,  but I am sure he'll chime in here with it.  Or he might just go back to old reliable,  "woody" his Bowtech Commander.  The real questions is what bow will he be hunting with this year since the Allegiance is gone?

Maitland Zeus.  Probably THE BEST bow that I have ever shot for competition.  We shall see next week.  Anyway.  No hunting bow right now.  We shall see what August brings.

Nope most have not and even fewer have ever even seen them.  They are made in Reno.  The guy just started making bows this last fall he has 2 models right now.  The Zeus which is 38" ATA and the Retribution that is 33" i think.  Both IBO at 318 not blistering fast but they are definately shooters.  For 2011 he will bump up the IBO speeds to 340 on the hunting models.  Here are a couple pics.  The target is a 60 yard group.

I can verify that Matt shoots it pretty darn well.  I shot with him and Scott at lunch today,  and Matt was dialed in. Scott was... well Scott.  LOL  That bow is definitely a shooter and good looking to,  should hang well in your stand there Matt.

Heading up Tuesday after work to Darrington,  looking forward to elk burgers... Thanks Matt!  LOL  I'll be bringing the venison burger.  That should go well with some ice cold micro brews and a nice cuban for after.....  Good news Matt.... No SOCO or Red Stag on this trip.... unless you want me to bring some!   :yike:

Hornseeker.... Your bow took 2nd place in the Senior Trad NFAA National championship!   Beat 4 of the 5 guys shooting high dollar Olympic recurves.  5 days of shooting kind of wore me out though,  just got the trailer home a bit ago.  So you now have a WSAA State Outdoor Championship and a NFAA National Outdoor 2nd place for your bow.  Got lots of compliments on it,  they all wanted to know who made it.

The guy who took 1st,  Bobby Grahm from Oklahoma was a blast to shoot with,  he won both the Indoor NFAA nationals in Louisville and now the Outdoor this year.  Someone mentioned it may have only happened 4 other times in Trad division.  I'll be heading to Louisville if I can to challenge him there this winter.

Kudos to the Darrington Archers for putting on a great tourney,  hosting that many archers for 5 days was a lot of work.

Funny thing ... Dugie and his Dad are friends with Matt on here.... So he was staying in Matt's trailer.  Met him down there,  great young man.  He was at the practice range every night for hours.  The kid can really shoot.  the kid can eat too.... Matt did an elk burger burn for a bunch of the shooters,  I think they were 1/3 # and he stuffed down 2 of them.  His Dad is on the USA Paraolympic team,  Army disabled vet.  His son set 2 or 3 new National records while he was at it this year.
