I am not sure on the boiling lol, I will have to ask him.  Anyways, the buck was ruttin a lil bit as it came in right behind a couple does, but wasn't in full rut... one reason it may look a little smaller is because that buck was only 3.5 years old per a game biologist. and it was taken up in the ne corner of the state

I wouldn't fret it about the boiling.  I boil everything.
