Never around during season

I have only caught him on cam in the spring early summer but never during season hence why he is so big I guess

Are you arechery hunting, or modern firearm?  If you are modern firearm hunting, and your trail cam is baited with mineral lick, then the reason he may be disappearing is because in my experience, they stop using those licks once they shed their velvet.  Had a big whitey coming into a mineral lick trail cam last year, until the first week in September, then he disappeared on us.
Your buck probably goes nocturnal as soon as the archery hunters start moving in. :dunno:

Probably either the School Fire (2005) or the Columbia Complex Fire (2006), depending on what area he's in.
