Bear Attack
« on: August 14, 2010, 03:19:58 AM »

Well it happened ..... one of my cameras this year has been attacked .... It's been a long time ..... I knew it would happen again.
They've been licking and sniffing these cams especially   :dunno:
I've got about 175 photos over 14 minutes of this guy attacking my camera with both front feet as well as some chewing and sniffing action.
He snuck in from the side and just started in...very curious sometimes almost playing hide and seek with the lens of the camera!

Surprisingly the only damage was the "lens" for my motion sensor was popped out and damaged. I'm glad everything was packed in that pelican case. If it wasn't, I'm not sure it would have survived.

He's got a nice looking hide and a really cool white patch on his chest. I wasn't planning on specifically bear hunting this year, but I guess my deer spot is loaded with 'em so....

So, what scent have you been leaving on the camera's 'unintentionally'.  Have you tried wearing Nitril gloves and spraying them with some pine scent when you handle them?

:) Only had one of our cameras hijacked by a bear.  Didn't get the good facials like you did.  Just a bunch of the dental record pictures.  Those are good pics.

Slobbercam ...... love it!

I don't know what is attracting the bears ... I have'nt been careless scent-wise ..... although not scent free....
The cams I've had up for the last few weeks are all homebrew and all seem to be attracting the bears. On all of them I get some ear pics.... then they move in for the kill.

I'm going to have to try the gloves and spray or wipe down with unscented wipes.

I've been trying to get some buck pics but all I'm getting is bears!

Is that considered baiting?  I'd be more than happy to come try to remove one of those slobberpusses for you.
