Rino 530 problems?
« on: July 16, 2010, 06:52:28 AM »
-Anybody have problems with there Rino 530 not turning on? Mine is brand new, fully charged and working just fine, the next time i turn it on it wont turn on >:( I have to pop the battery out, pop it back in then it works again! This has happened twice now! Is this normal or should i take it back? Seems to be a expensive handheld for this to be normal, I think i may have got a lemon!

Mine will freeze the screen once in awhile and I have to remove the battery to unfreeze it. I believe that it is like rebooting it. This problem bugs me, but otherwise I really think that this unit is an outstanding one.

Had mine for four years and it has never worked well for me. Reception sucks. I've heard some guys say that they mess with the satellite selection and it helps but I've not found it to help to a great degree. For what I paid it's disappointing. It works well on the water with marine charts, as your not likely to get blocked reception out there.

Mine just started doing that during the spring bear season.  works fine, but after shut down it doesn't like to restart.  have to pop the battery out and put it back in and then it will work just fine.

First one I bought wouldn't transmit (be received) past 100 yards or so,  sent it back.  They sent me another new one and it has worked great for 2 seasons now.

a software update cleared that up for me - or maybe it was just coincidence, but i know that the update made the comms part work better.

a friend loaned me his, it did the same thing. I am happy with a topo and compass again because of it.

Software update (if needed) is where I would start. I've had mine for almost three years zero problems. Excellent reception! This is compared to my previous etrex and etrex Vista's. I even have the Rhino mounted to my KLR650 and it get's jarred around pretty good all day long. The real selling point for me is again, the reception. Far better than the other models I had.

The ability to find your partner in the woods without any guidance except the rino itself along with many other features

combining two gadgets into one.  I have been packing a radio and a GPS in two different pieces, now I carry one for a little less weight and less mass, with longer battery life than both.
