trouble finding a target

I'm looking for a 10-12" hanging metal target.  One that will "ping" when hit with a round up to .308.  I can't find one.  Am I going to have to make my own?  Anyone have any ideas?

You could try contacting someone at the Paul Bunyon rifle range and ask them where they buy them from. They have 3 that are hung up on the rifle range.

Try making your own if you have the resources.  3/8 inch steel would work, 1/2 would last longer

might make your own, Instead of just using a flat piece of steel you might try welding four triangle pieces together to make a pyrmid shape, my thought is that it would make it less likely to dent or warp your target and alot less likely to send any metal back at you.

Turn up your volume
 This is 3/8's plate leaning up against a dirt bank. If the steel is hanging then the hits make more noise. I cut up a old tank at work and kept a couple pieces of the steel to shoot. Inside of 600 yards the noise from hits are alot louder.

We have a "gong" its about a 16"x14" piece of 1" steel with 2 holes in the top hung from a small rebar frame, works awesome and goes ping when the bullet hits it and swings back and forth a little, heavy but ultra durable, and I was always told dont shoot 22.'s at your higher caliber bullet plate targets, because the small bullet will hit the larger divit made by the larger caliber bullet and richochet.

If you shoot under 300yds Id go 1/2 high grade steel or thicker. My .223 leaves a heck of a dent in 1/2 at 300yds with just 40gr bt. My 338 win will punch a hole clean though 1/2 at 300yds

IF you want a real steel gong, you'll need hardened steel plate.

There are a few guys on ebay, and ALL OVER the web selling it. It isn't cheap, but it'll lost a LOT longer than mild steel plate.

Be conscious of steel core bullets and distances from the target. Angle them down if possible. Shoot smart.

The other option is to use scrap pieces of mild steel. Keep in mind that they won't last long. The mild steel gets tore up pretty quick. I have a 10" gong that I picked up at the gun show a few years ago. It's held up very well considering what I've shot at it.

a dozer pad, crusher wear plate, cutting edge, ar 400 or better will work. my 300rum wil go through 1/2" mild steel at 600yds
