I'm considering it, but I'll probably wait for a little cool front to roll through. Still irks me that the NE corner of the state doesn't open 1 Aug. I used to LOVE hunting up in the Salmo-Priest Wilderness area in Aug.

I work on the weekend but sometime next week I will be out there ...have been looking but not sure where the bears are lots of logging going on...

will be hunting 388 the 1st if all goes good, then might get down and see if i can call a west side bear with my cuzz down in carson area. hope it is cool and still i have not been out scouting do to work but i know a few areas to call in

I am hoping they are in the timber, near the cool breeze off the creek.
I also hope they will allow access to the area, they were tying ribbons to the trees in June

Scouted last night by darrington. We got way up high and saw a bear about 7ish feeding across a big opening on a steep hillside. We Where like 1000 yards out when we spotted him. Seemed to a pretty big bear. We didn't try to get any closer.

I too will be scouting/hunting in the great Darrington area. Haven't had the chance to preseason scout like I wanted but hey, opening day is here and I've got no other plans.

Finishing a Buffalo Wolf Howler and a cust wood Howler. and going to make myself a Maple Burl bear call and a elk call. then i will leave in the morning for either the coast know the area very well lot's of bear's or unit 340 on the dry side for a colored bear. have everything Ready. treated my self to some bad azz new Danner's and a new scent Loc camo set. i'm pumped. should i go to matheney were it's cool on the coast or Hot in the 340 but easier to call a bear less food. good luck every one. back to the wolf Howler. The beginning of a family vacation, I'm sure to find a couple days to scout and call next week. The youngest boy, his buddy and I have plans to hike a trail we've never been on on Friday morning. Dunno what we'll come across. I'll be prepared with hand canon just in case we're surprised. There is one spot we looked at late last year that is promising for the opener. I am certain to spend some time there mid week too.

Heading out Sat night to camp near my spot, I want to be in before daylight, as it heats up fast, you usually have till about 10:00 am. Then wait till evening, lots of fresh tracks and crap, so we'll see.....

Look's like i will be leaving today for the Taneum area. have been there in the snow over the year's calling cougar. made myself a killer bear call out of maple burl. easy blowing and Raspy. going out to the shop to turn a couple openreed 5/8's barrel's. this is what i wait for all year. i drive a slate Grey 09 Tundra has RRCALLS sticker's on it. and i will have a Kodiak canvas white tent. stop by and say Hi. will bring call's to sell also. Got a nice camp set up. About a mile above Taneum camp ground. Up in some meadows right now above Cle Elum it is 84 degree's. Heading over toasted manastash is real open up there for calling. Take care and good luck every one. Rick

Bearmanric, I wish I could hear how those Caller sound like Cuz I am deaf. Dont feel bad for me. Just help me out!

I need to buy those caller and learn how to call bear in. It would be very interesting for me to watch where he is coming from if I couldnt hear rear me!

Sent me pm what your suggest me about what kind of Caller should I get.

I got my plan for Sunday going to start early. I have about a 3 mile walk to get to where I'm hunting. I got my pack packed and ready to go. I hope to see some dead bear pictures on here good luck to everyone.

Bill (hunter-4-life) and I are not going to get out until next weekend, we are going to try a high country bear hunt in chiwawa for the first time (don't know if its any good or not, but its worth a try right?). I hope to see a lot of dead bears on here come the end of next week.

during deer season last year, I saw a ton of bear sign in the chiwawa area. Both high and low. ALOT of it right off the road near the river.

I am going to assume your talking the Chiwawa river. We are going to try and find some berry fields up high, and if they are not ripe yet, then we will find a good vantage point and call. I am just pumped that this time of year has rolled around again!
