2010 OIL Permits/Tags - Who Has Received Them?
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:07:38 PM »
First a little recap on what I have posted on different topic areas on this forum.  The first week of July I received a postcard from WDFW notifying me I had been selected for a Three Forks moose permit.  The instructions said to mail payment to the Olympia address before August 6, I believe, or I would forfeit my permit to someone else.  Fat chance that was happening! 8)  Since I work nearby the main WDFW office in Olympia I stopped in July 7 and wrote a check on the spot.  I was informed the good folks "upstairs" were preparing packets for successful OIL hunters and the packets were not ready.  I asked what the packets contained and the person at the front desk thought they contained a tag, permit, map and some literature about the hunt.  He said they should be ready in a week or so.

Nearly three weeks have passed so today I again visited the main WDFW office in Olympia to ask them if they had any new information about my moose my permit (my check was cashed on July 13). The person I spoke with was not the same person I spoke with on July 7.  He informed me they had just got word, again from "upstairs", that the OIL packets were ready for shipping and the staff "downstairs" were directed to ship said packets this week.  When I asked when they should arrive I was told no later than the end of next week.  He told me to check back then if I hadn't received mine.  I also asked if all of the OIL packets would all go out at the same time.  The answer was yes.

So my question to you other 2010 OIL permit holders is, have you received your actual permits or tags yet?  If so, did you receive any of the other info such as a map or literature about your hunt?

To previous OIL permit holders, did you receive maps and other documents along with your tags and permits?  (Bobcat, I know your dad did not in 2006.)  I asked the gentleman today when they started mailing packets with maps, etc. along with the tags/permits and he said he started with WDFW in 2008 and they did it that year and in 2009.  He did not know about 2007 or earlier.

In reading some other posts on this site it sounds like several hunters have received their actual permits/tags. :dunno:  However, I wasn't sure if those permits were for deer and elk.  I am specifically asking about OIL tags (sheep, goat, moose).  My reasons for this post are 1) to pass along information from WDFW I have been given, and 2) to determine if we are all getting the same information from WDFW.  Does anyone else with an OIL tag have either the same or a different experience communicating with WDFW they want to share?

Thanks!

I called and was told pretty much the same thing, packets should be going out this week.  In 08 with my moose there was a packet that came in addition to the permit, as I recall there was a tooth envelope in there, and a page that had the additional questions you'll get to answer after your hunt, for moose they request that you submit the greatest spread on the animal and a few other things like how many bulls did you see, how many cows, calves, etc.

Hopefully the mailman delivers the package soon, I know I am anxiously awaiting that tag in hand!

Same here, check cashed a week after I mailed it, but no tag yet.  Each trip to the mailbox is with great anticipation....

My Moose packet last year included the tooth envelope, a list of other questions regarding my hunt.  Greatest wisth, number of points, etc. and that was essentially it.  No maps, no names of biologists for the area, no tag, that came seperately.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Maybe it has changed, but when my dad drew a moose permit in 2006, I believe he was able to log on to the online system and purchase the moose tag just as you would any other tag. It would then be printed out just like a deer or elk tag and mailed to you, and normally this only takes less than a week to receive it in the mail. Are they having you send the money directly to the WDFW now ???

Give it until the end of next week then call if you haven't received anything.

Paid for my tag over the phone.  I know it has come out of my account but haven't seen the tag yet.  Been two weeks now.

I received a large envelope from WDFW in the mail today!

It contains a special permit, tag, tooth envelope, cover letter and an an example reporting script.

I would say this makes it as official as it is gonna get.  I am going moose hunting!  :IBCOOL:
