broadheads for bear....
« on: July 30, 2010, 09:59:45 PM »
I'm just getting into bear hunting and really want to do it with a bow.  any idea what a good broadhead might be to use?  I'm looking for a cut on impact but starting to think one that might break bone might be better.  what are your thoughts? :dunno:

a good soild head with cut on contact blades is the only way to go in my mind. i like my montecs very solid and will break bone as well. with bear you want to try to get a quater away shot more then any other animal in my mind. avoid the shoulders and go for a doubble lung is the best shot to take. look at the shot placement post at the top of the bear hunting area. very good pics in there to show what i am talking about bear have vitals a little more forward them most our animals. a normal heart shot like on a deer is a marginal shot on a bear you need to come up to about to the halfway point of the body and try to pin the opposite shoulder and you should have a dead bear! shoot strait :IBCOOL:

I use wac'ems for everything I hunt with my bow.  I would use the same broadheads that you use for deer or elk.  Shot placement is the most important thing.

i shoot one of the fastest bows in the world pse x force i also shoot more poundage them 95% of the people at 83-84lbs and at 343fps the only time i hear them in when i shoot in my barn but they are screaming out of my bow. so yes they do make a little noise in flight but the animal will react to the sound of the bow way before they hear the broadhead :twocents: and none of the 5 biggame animals i have taken with them never heard them :IBCOOL:

100 grain slick trick magnums razors sharp out of the package fly great and are strong enough for a bear. :)

A bears ribs are thinner than that of a whitetail, most people dont know this and if your worried about shoulder hit, kiss it goodbye no matter what head your using.
