CAmp Hauler-- ATV + Game Cart
« on: August 01, 2010, 08:19:32 PM »
Hunting buddy Mike came by this afternoon to check on how we were going to haul the ATV to Colorado in Sep.  We’ll use Bandaid's small ATV trailer so we won’t need the ramps.

We then tried the game cart and figured a way to secure it that allows pivots and turns.  Ended up putting about 70#s on the cart and it pulled hills with both of us on the Grizzly 600.  We should be able to move camp up the hill in one trip and should have room for a few amenities

The area doesn't have roads beyond the trail to camp so the ATV is only used for the trip in and out.  While the cart is unwieldy through brush I’m hoping we can use the game cart along the fence trail to get close to a downed critter as we’ve used similar carts to bring ELK out many times.

I’ve got high hopes for this year.  How are things going on your end?

Greg

Anybody tried a cart hookup?  Any problems and recommendations?

We just used some strap, tied it on one end, wrapped around both the atv rack and the handle on the game cart and tied it off at the end. Took out me and a buddy and a whole spike, plus those little sheds. 2 miles in and 2 miles out.

I've hauled whole ELK on a cart- this is a reinforced Pack Horse- heavier axles and wheels plus handle extension, but we've always used them in areas where no motor vehicles werre allowed.  Some of you may recognize Leo from Olympic Archery helping me.  I sure miss him.

These days we usually bag the meat.  Getting the hide off and hanging quarters etc sure helps cool it.

Many potential uses

" Old Leo was a cool guy,..."

Yep he was.  Even after Ahlzeimers set in and he couldn't remember my name he still knew which road fork to take and the location of numerous deer encouters " he was just left of that rock".  I found him on my front porch many days saying it's time to go scout some deer, or ELK or .......

I wasn't always able to take off but enjoyed the many lessons I learned over the 12 years we hunted together.  My goal was to see a critter before he did-  I didn't get many.   ;)

we hauled my friends elk out on my cart it is rated to 500lbs and we were amazed by what it could do. it was great, will try it on deer when we get the chance most don't need the cart treatment a simple drag will get them to where they need to be loaded from :IBCOOL:
