204 doe tag
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:04:44 PM »
So I got drawn for a doe tag in the 204 unit and from all the posts i've read it seems like there are a ton of hunters over there during the general rifle season. I havent had a chance to get over there and scout yet but looking at the maps I was thinking I might try along the Aeneas valley rd. Does anyone know that area and if it gets hunted just as hard as around Wauconda or
Republic? Any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

Mostly private land off the Aeneas valley RD. I will say you shouldn't have any problem popping a doe with that tag.

There is a good deal of private land in the Aeneas valley, but the unit as a whole has a great deal of national forest land the is totally under hunted for does. You should have no problem finding a big doe to fill your freezer. There are two other threads a little further down about unit 204 and one titled east okanogan that have great info. Did you draw it as a second deer tag for Sept/Oct. prior to the general season? If so even easier. Look anywhere in the national forests outside of Oroville and Chesaw, you will get your deer.

Thanks for the replies, i just got back from scouting a bit over there and Aeneas valley was a lot of private land. We went up by Crawford Lake(?) and it looked pretty good up there I just dont know how many people hunt off that road system? We went from there up to Bonaparte Lake Rd and made a big loop through Chesaw into Oroville. We saw 10-12 deer during our trip so at least one of those should have filled my tag and my dad probably wouldve gotten his too! I'll be hunting the modern opener Oct16-24 with my pops. Between us we will have 4 tags  to fill so if we cant get something I'll probably give up hunting for good!!!! just kidding, it should be nice to get our freezer filled back up again though
