Opener bear down
« on: August 04, 2010, 10:59:12 AM »
Sunday was bear opener and I went out in the afternoon. Went in about 1.5 miles behind a locked gate into timber Co. land.  I not sooner got to my spot and I could hear a bear just beyond the clear cut down in the re prod.  After about an hour, I started getting glimpses of it on the tree line. but no good shot. Finally it worked it's way around and out into the open clear cut. It was rolling over old logs looking for bugs. I was layed out on a log and had a rock solid rest. She turned broad side slightly quartering away at 180 yds (text book) I squeezed one off just behind the shoulder and out just in front of the apposite shoulder. When I hit her, she went ass over tea kettle rolling down the hill about thirty yards and lights out!!  I called my bud and he came out with his pack while I skinned and quartered. He showed up and hauled a couple loads up the hill to the road. We got the hide and all the meat up to the logging road and rode our mtn bikes down the mtn and out. That was harry!! Got to the truck at 11pm and all done de boning and in the fridge and freezer by 1am. I have the head and hide in the freezer so when you open the door the bear's looking at you w\ paws on each side. freaked the kids out!! ha ha I think I"m going to have a rug made. It's not a real big bear, but you don't get one everyday.

That looks like a very solid Sow.  Look pretty old too.  Do you have an estimated weight on her?

don't look at the k9's look at or for the other teeth :chuckle: i can;t hardly see any between the k9's and the molars or lack there of. and the face also i would say it is a older sow as well.

Thank you!

Yeah don't look at the K-9's.  Look at the teeth between the K-9's they look wore down to the gum line.  The K-9 on the bottom that you can see most of looks wore from the upper K-9.  The snout is thick broad and heavy.  That looks like an old Bear.
