Got Bear ?
« on: August 04, 2010, 03:44:56 PM »
With all the bears hitting the ground already, it seems like it is going to be a good year.
I wanted to keep count just out of curiousity...

lol
Not trying to upstage. Just continue what I started a couple years ago. Last year I caught flack for starting it during spring season so I was going to wait until the fall season started.

I agree, this would be a great thread for photos. Lots of good bears hitting the ground.

Same here. Went out with a camera for a couple hours on the opener, but I have yet to get my crap together.

I been out a few times, but have no real Idea what I am doing.
No berries, even the few Cascara trees that have some on them are just now showing, small and green.
I have tried calling, but lack confidence that I am making the correct sounds......

I finally went out today with intentand found.... not much....some thimble berries and a few blackberries that were awfully red still...no fresh sign  :dunno:  also called a little and likewise not sure if I am doing it right but people in the parking lot thought there was a crying baby or hurt animal so i cant be too far off  :chuckle:

I was gonna try the ecaller but was actually enjoying myself so much just sitting and glassing after doing some hiking I never got it out.....

We've been walking near home where we saw bear and sign last year and so far not much this year and again the berry patch is still pretty barren looking....oh well I am stoked for my eastern wa trip in september and consider most of this "training" lol....

The berries are out there...just not in bunches. The red huck is poppin' but the evergreen huck is a long way off. Haven't seen much Salal berries yet, but the Oregon Grape is about done in my area. Some of the Cascara is ripe, but still a few weeks away from full blown and I am finding tons (ok, gallons) of little wild blackberries. The turd below is all berry, at about 600 ft elevation.

I just had to change my vote from not yet to looking for number 2.  I put a tag on one yesterday.  I hunted about 20 days with my spring tag and 7 days this month.  I will post pics and story tonight hopefully.

I was in a spot yesterday were... I've never seen so much sign and not seen a bear.  Friggin cattle have moved in.
