I have 4 vortex scopes and couldn't be happier.  The glass is crisp and clear. color rendition and quality are excellent.  They also have a unconditional warranty.  Unless it's a loupy vxIII I like the vortex better. :)   :)

better class of glass trumps power every day. there is no need for a 50mm scope at 200yds. there are guys that throw down silly groups with open sights at that range. I would personally try to steer a guy to a better 3-9x40ish scope. I think the conquest is the best optics you can get w/o spending a pile, the 4200 is the best bang orthe buck, and the luey is nice for guys like jamie, who want to add turrets (recomended over a reticle). ziess also can add turrets, but more $$

Looks I am going to be the first:

NIKON.. look.. and comapare.. if you see any difference at all.. it will only be one place.. the price tag! Same warranty, just as clear of optics and the BDC is better viewing in my humble opinion than the Boone and Crocket.

My call: Nikon Monarch 3-12x42 SF

The original poster still has never come back and said what the scope is to be used for, and what kind of rifle it will be mounted on, so I still cannot answer the question. Again, is this for a squirrel gun, an elephant gun, or something in between?

Leupold and Nikon are both good choices, but recently I picked up a Nitrex TR One 3x9x42 for $170.00 shipped.  I really am happy with the purchase.  I got it on ebay brand new from a gun store back east.  They originally came out at $299.00, but now are available around $200.00.  They are made by ATK, which is Federal, Weaver, etc.
