Sooooo close!!!
« on: August 05, 2010, 10:20:14 PM »
Went out to a new area today with my buddy and we rode in about a mile where we quickly spotted a "black dot". Sure enough it moved out of sight and back in sight 5 minutes later.  He was 597 yrds away :bash:. After he fed up and over the ridge we tried to ride all the way around to the other side and try to spot him.  It took us almost 2 hours to get over there and....nothing! So we continued our hunt and we ran into another (possibly the same one).

I was on my bike when I heard a loud crash in the brush. The bear started "huffing" at us and couldn't have been more than 50 yards away. The brush was way too thick and over my head to see anything.

I took my dad up there with me tonight and we rode quite a bit and didn't see anything. All in all it was a great day and I rode over 20 miles.

keep at it.  You get one.  Its hard to shoot one from home watching TV that for sure!  :chuckle:
I saw one out of range today as well.  Sucks :bash:.  I'll be out everyday until I have one on the ground that's for sure!!  Well...or until I run out of gas money.

What exactly is it when a bear huffs? Are they trying to smell you or have they already winded you? Are they inhaling or exhaling?

Only had a bear huff at me once...and it was dark and i could not see it and it was less than 25 years away.  I almost messed myself as I made a mad dash back to my truck.  Next time I hear a bear huff at me, I at least hope I can see it.  Had a cougar hiss at me on Sunday as well.  I think I could have made the world record for the 15 yard dash when I headed back to my truck then too.  Again, dark, unseen cat less then 25 yards.  Why cant this happen to me during day light hours?

Saw a cow elk on the I-90 median heading out of North Bend then on the way back saw a doe on the other side of I-90 a few hours later.  No bear though.

Seeing a bear... Hearing a bear... Is still a whole lot better than a day at WORK!

Now... If you can tie the two activities together. That'd be a good job.
