Saw a bear tonite ( and blew it )
« on: August 05, 2010, 08:58:05 PM »
Went out with malardman to drop the trail cam in the spot i mentioned a few days ago ( where i spooked) and decided to swing by a clear cut on the way home figures we see a jet black bear in the 200-230 lb range.  and neither of us had a rifle. i had the 12 gauge he had a pistol. We jet back to the house to grab a rifle and come back waited for an hour but nuttin!!! damnit!!! wasnt expecting that.. As we pulled up he saw us and slowly jogged uphill to pod of trees on the edge of the clear cut and just sat there for minute then disappeared.  Had a  frigging awesome pure jet black coat..   :bash:  Oh well another area to glass in the coming days!!   :'(

OK at least I am not the only one that fell out of the chair when I read the title. I was just wondering how he held him down??

But like all said, get back out there and try again.

OMG I can't stop laughing!!!  My side is hurting!!!
Dirty24d, I almost always have a rifle in my truck during hunting season!  This said, on Sunday (opening day) I had a company party to go to after work.  I pulled a dine and dash and quickly headed out to a spot where I've seen two different bears.  I pulled nearby grabbed my binos, rifle and opened the box of what I thought were bullets.  As i slowly opened the box, I realized two rounds at a time that they were all shot and all I had was a box of 20 rounds of brass.  I had a box of Nosler Partitions, and some Triple 7 Black powder but didn't think that would work out too well.  I just took my binos and pistol and ended up watching this bear at about 80 yards from me.   :bash:  I've been back there 3 times and haven't seen another one there, even did some calling with no luck.  And now not only is my rifle in the truck, but a brand new box of ammo as well!!

Yeah that sounds about par for the course for the shenanigans i pulled tonite..   Only thing that would have made it worse would have been if i had showed back up with a rifle and there was a hunter field dressing him out.

But that wasnt the case so I'm alright!!!

i think the sheepskin is how he got the bear close enough to blow it. put on a sheeps skin sit  by a tree and baa baa till the bear shows up then jump out  and have your way with it. must be a new way to hunt. wait till the bear rolls over for a smoke then ya shoot it.

Not legal for run of the mill hunters, but I think there is an exception for Master hunters.

Yep, there are exceptions in the rules for Master Baiters.  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself there)....

Anyway, this gave me a real good laugh this morning.  Thanks!
Of sorrow and sickness I've known on my way,
