Probably some Asian type bee that made it over here. Have you seen those "beetle looking things that have that same coloring? They aer about an inch long with big wings?

These are great. I love macro-wildlife. What are you using for a macro ?  Maybe there should be a separate thread.

I haven't noticed anything like that Buck.  I have noticed more weird bugs than I ever knew existed out there though.  I am using a 100mmCanon.  I wanted the 180 but everything I read about it said HEAVY, and the 100 has been around a long time.  All this is freehand.  I hate tripods when chasing things.  They don't stay in place very long.

That's one of the "metallic green sweat bees" (Genus Agapostemon).  They are native.  They do sting, too, but it's only mildly painful (I wouldn't know what it was, except I was curious after one stung me and I killed it).   I can't tell you which species it is, there are several found in eastern WA.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

COOL.  Thanks Beau.   It acts much like a honey bee, not like a hornet at all.

Yes, they are true bees, drink nectar and gather pollen.
