Lacamas has some of those. I have caught some small cats in most of the lakes around here but nothing that sized. Looks like if you were at kress you were on the back side...

I had rain freeze to my cheek, from the wind chill. And in the summer it would be so damn hot and muggy, you'd have to wait and fish at night.

Yeah I remeber those days, and cant remeber the name of the bug, but we had a mulberry tree in the back yard, and these things would make this loud sound all night long.  It sounded like eeee err eee er.  This was  a big green bug that flew around and was the size of a mouse.

alright thats enoughI you guys are making me homesick!! :'(  I grew up around Halstead Ks.  besides the incredible whitetail hunting catfish are the other thing I miss about kansas.  we used to run lines in the little arkansas for flat heads and fish for cannels in toronto and fall river.  If I rember right the biggest flathead we pulled up was around 50lbs and the biggest channel was around 25lbs.  I remember the cicadas quite well,  gets so bad you can't sleep sometimes.  one thing I don't miss is chiggers....nasty little *censored*s.

they used to get in my arm pits, and behind the knees for some reason.  I liked the crappie fishing the best out there.  I did some cat fishing, but mostly caught painted and snapping turtles out of olathe lake, oregon trail pond, and water works.  When I realed them in, it was like they were water skiing.

behind the knees is the worst that is for sure.  I love a good crappie fry my mouth is watering like crazy.  we used to hit cheney and marion alot for crappie.  My dad is crazy into walleye now so he spends alot of time up at milford.  we used to wade out to the wood piles about chest deep to jig for crappie, the bad part was keeping your eyes open for those damn water mocs!  they love crappie as much as we do! it is not fun trying to ge tout of the water while holding you pole in one hand fish in the other and try to dodge a pissed off snake!

I never caught crappies on anything but minnows or lures that looked like minnows.  If I used crawdads taht I caught on the beach then it was bass and sunfish.

He He, just noticed this KS reunion thread.  I hailed from AN county just south of Ottawa and Lawrence.  Sure was fun catching the big cats and crappie for sure.  Always strikes me how muddy those creeks are when back visiting now after being used to our clear streams.  And the chiggers... I can think of areas I got them that was much worse than behind the knees!  :'(    I still have to get back and chase the whitetails every chance I get.

Wow, thats a huge cat for this area.  I live near that lake and a buddy of mine has caught several cats in the 8-12 pound range there.  One night while fishing for cats he caught a 10 lb large mouth bass.  I bass fish there on occasion and haven't even seen one caught over 7 lb. during the day.  I've caught one 5 lb bass and some small cats from Kress.  Some guys hit that lake pretty hard but don't have that kinda luck.  Not a real big lake anyhow.  Awesome fish man, congrats.
