got to thinking and figured it was the nose tag, after we get through cherries we are going to hit up the wells pool for some sockeye mind giving a guy any idea of how deep they are running?

I wondered about that myself - I just figured it was your special way of cleaning them! Well geez - there goes the idea of having them mounted huh!  (I know, they could still do it using pics and/or measurements...)

They are checking for coded-wire tags (CWTs). CWTs have a 6 digit number identifying which hatchery that fish  came from. Also, they could be removing otoliths from them. Otoliths can be used to tell age, type of hatchery, water quality, etc. Otoliths can be marked with various changes in teh water. Very interesting.

Fished again today. Hammered them from 7-8, was running king gear from 430-7AM and lost 5 sockeye on king gear. caught 1. at 8 we headed to wells and caught a few more sockeye and a jack. Great day on the water. and a hot one too. now its dumping buckets. literally.

Anyone have any recent reports from the brewster pool?  Will be up there this weekend for the salmon derby.  Not expecting huge success in the derby but more of a learning experience.

Just got back from my folks house in Pateros.  I was a bit late for the hot sockeye run.  The Okanogan cooled off and the Monse fish counter said a bunch of greenheads shot up that next morning.  All in all was a great break to spend time on the water with friends, dodge boats, and put some nice meat in the freezer for the winter.  We put around 38 socks in the boat over the vacation and 1 king who got confused and bit my sock gear.  Here is hoping to another good run next year, and to me planning my vacation a little better.

On a side note, it was good to get back over on the dry side for awhile fish or no fish.
