Out and looking
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:17:49 PM »
So, yesterday, I got up and went into a clear cut near our home place...(can't hunt with the son for a few more weeks yet - long story).

I walked into the clear cut, sat down on a stump that provided great cover and started in to calling while looking around a bit...when I saw the elk herd.  Must have been over 20 of them, 150 - 200 yards off in the grasses & brush.  Only got eyes on one bull, the rest were cows and calves.

On the way back home, a red-tail started in to scree-ing away at me.

No bear in sight, no bear signs, but you know what, it was still a great couple of hours. It was still a day out in the woods.
Of sorrow and sickness I've known on my way,
But I'm old and I'm nervis,
I'm cast from the Service,
And all I deserve is a shillin' a day.
