Do the bears on the west side typ. move in the rain or do they hole up and wait it out ?

My experience with almost all animals is that they dont like transitions.  If its been sunny and starts raining they will kind of disappear for a day or two but then its back to normal after that.  They all have to eat and they are used to the rain.  I am no expert on bears though.

I saw one climbing around in a Cascara tree Saturday morning, during the first rain we have had for a while.

They live outdoors in WA. They are out during all but the nastiest weather.
That being said, I don't see bears in the rain because I don't hunt them in the rain.

Went to go check my trail cam yesterday at about 4:45pm while it was still raining pretty good, i wasnt creeping or trying to be sneaky just walking normal the second i turned the corner and hit the covered timber i see a 70 - 80  pound youngin walking head down right towards me ..   didnt even see me. I shouldered and had him in the crosshairs for probably 4 or 5 seconds before i decided I just didnt feel right shooting it and yelled at him.  He looked up shocked and then bolted.   I was spinning around half expecting mama bear to come crashing out of the brush but it didnt happen.   I'm hoping I dont regret that moment down the road..

Yeah i agree thats why i didnt shoot. I know a bunch of guys at work say they would have shot, but thats just not my style. It wasnt a life or death situation and I'm not doing it out of nessecity to put food on the table immediately.  I was catching grief this morning when i told them but in the end i know it was the right thing to do and it wouldnt have brought me any satisfaction downing a youngin like that. The big game gods can kindly repay me by getting this bruiser i've been tracking to present me with a broadside shot by the end of this weekend !!

I see bears in the rain all the time!Actually seen the neighborhood bear this morning while walking my dogs.It was lightly raining and the bear was eating blackberries.I was thinking of going home and grabbing the bow,but man he's only 150 to 175 pounds.Probally 3 or 4 years old.I would like to let him grow,but the neighborhood would probally like to see him gone.

I've not yet taken a bear, but I agree with your decision to pass on one that size.  Now, if it was the last day of the season.....I'd like to think I'd still pass one that size up...

I have shot a few that size that were between 5 and 14 years old. I say shoot.

I shot a 22 yr old sow that size....those are average size bears nuttin to be ashamed of foresure...bear down sounds a lot better than tag soup
