Bear elevation

At what elevation are you guys seeing bear and fresh bear sign. I was up to the 2800' ft level around HWY 2 Sultan area and I did'nt see much fresh sign. Do they drop down in elevation to eat all the blackberries as soon as they start to ripen? Any comments will help. Thanks

Some sign I saw on Saturday was at 5,100'. Lots of green grass and stumps with bugs yet.  A few Red Hucks at 3,000' had just started to ripen. Nothing eaten there though.

I have been as high as 5600, but have found nothing close to ripe yet.  Seen one bear at around 2500ish but that is a whole different story.

Most sign I have been seeing is around 600 - 800 feet. Pretty low.

I see sign at every elevation Ive been at,this is a weird year though,im hanging at 2500 to 3000

Hiked from 2k to 4500 or so sunday, saw fresh sign(peeled trees) at about the high point...no ripe berries yet. Close down around 2k.

Seem's like it's a little tough right now with the berries not being ripe. Seems like last year around this time the berries were ripe and I was seeing alot of fresh sign lower down around 1500'. I havent hunted bear alot and the only times I have seen them is when there in the berries. Not sure what the strategy is if I'm not hunting berries.

They are ripping stumps apart in the older clearcuts right now. We could hear one poppin' stumps last week but never got a look at it. These are older clearcuts that the stumps are starting to rot in.

I agree, the majority of the sign I have seen has been in clear cuts with rotten stumps and logs. The berries are gonna be way late this year IF they come on at all.

I saw one at 50' above sea level in the coastal range this last weekend.  Very heavy stump damage was evident. Also a large bear pile full of black carpenter ants.

Seen them in all different elevations up by Stevens Pass. Just get out there and keep looking.

Hunted w/ my brother around the 3500-4000' elevation yesterday. Saw quite a few large piles yesterday some with grass some w/ berries. There were actually quite a few ripe blueberries. On our hike out we had something running through the brush towards us and then turned and ran parallel to us and then stopped. Couldn't see what it was because the brush was so thick. Whatever it was made a whole lot of racket.

There's a lot of sign in lower elevations.  Garbage bears.  My son and I found a band aid and a little plastic sandwich bag in one pile.
